What it says
Compiled profiles, read through the WikiTree API in the October 2026 research on the Ellingwood line
(research/ellingwood/Ellingwood_Woodbury_Rand.md, Ellingwood_Wives_Families.md,
Ellingwood_Cape_Cod.md). Each profile is only as good as the sources it cites; where a profile
quotes a record (a FamilySearch index, a will abstract, a census), the record is named on the page
that uses it.

(
research/ellingwood/Short_Pattullo_Comparison.md):- Short-3592: “A note in the Short family history says that John was born in Newcastle, England” (the profile’s birthplace field has “Rufley, Northumberland Co., Ontario”); married Mary Jeffrey 7 Jan 1836, Cobourg; his family “moved to Woodstock after his death and lived on Graham St.” (Skinner). John Graham, there quoted: William “came from the tiny village of Foulden … He was a blacksmith … No record has been found of his birth, baptism or marriage”; he came to Canada first, said to be to help rebuild the St. Louis Gate at Quebec, and Mary and their “five children, one boy and four girls, all born in Foulden” followed, settling near Keene. Bob Rumsey: the Jeffreys and Lyalls came together in 1820 and settled at Cobourg. A stone at Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough: “Sacred to the memory of Mary Lyall wife of William Jeffrey aged 83.” Further generations (Jeffrey-2830 to -2833, Steele, Lyall, Simpson and others) are entered without sources.

Its research note offers a “possible” baptism of 29 Nov 1772 at Bellie, Moray (parents James Pitilloe and Jean Gordon), and quotes Berniece Trimble, Belfountain: Caves, Castles and Quarries in the Caledon Hills: Alexander was “a native of Prestonpans, near Edinborough, Scotland and later a resident of Glasgow,” came in the autumn of 1820 and settled on Lot 2, Con. 6, Caledon; “In 1823 his wife and family, James, Thomas, Halkett, Margaret and Jane, joined him.” Halkett “continued to live on his father’s farm” and had “five daughters and five sons.”
