Notes

Brother of Halkett Pattullo, and the eldest of Alexander Pattullo and Jean Watson’s children. He was born at Inveresk with Musselburgh, outside Edinburgh, in June 1807, the year after his parents’ marriage there, and in 1823 came out to Upper Canada with his mother, his brothers and his sisters, to the farm his father had taken up at Caledon, Lot 2, Con. 6. As Berniece Trimble’s history of Belfountain tells it, “James acquired lot 5, Cons 6 (4th line) from William Hare and named it ‘Bonnie Braes.’ He married Polly Campbell and raised a family of eleven” (as WikiTree quotes her, source).

Later he farmed at Garafraxa, in Wellington County. On 2 April 1879, a widower of 71 and a farmer of Garafraxa, he married Emeline Trueman [?], a widow of 65 living at Brampton, who had been born in Vermont; both were “E. Methodist.” The registration names his parents as Alexander Pattullo and “Mary” [?] Watson (record): a record of the family made independently of Halkett’s. He died at Garafraxa on 10 June 1890, by a printed genealogy pictured on Find a Grave (source).
