Notes
Aunt of Ruth (Short) Ellingwood. Born at Newcastle in January 1844, the year before her brother John Gerald, she moved with her widowed mother to Cobourg and Woodstock after 1858. In 1891 she was a bookkeeper at Woodstock, living with her sister Isabella and Isabella’s husband, James Hay (the census, as WikiTree gives it). When her brother Joseph William died at High River in 1924 she was one of the two sisters who survived him, “Mrs. Mary B. Short of Woodstock” (record); no marriage is known, and the “Mrs.” may be the paper’s. Her sister Isabella died four days later, and Mary, the last of John Short and Mary Jeffrey’s children, died in September 1928.
