Notes

Sister of Mary (Jeffrey) Short. She married Adam Hall in 1832, and in 1861 they were farming in Smith Township, Peterborough County, with seven children at home (the census, as WikiTree gives it). Their children, as Find a Grave links them (source): William (1835-1921), Isabella (1836-1922), Christiana (1836-1855), Thomas (1840-1918), Andrew Jeffrey Hall (1842-1924), named for her brother, Agnes Jane, Mrs. Ferguson (1844-1926), Adam (1846-1920) and Robert (1849-1923). Her brother Andrew had married a Janet Hall in 1828, very possibly Adam’s sister.

Her mother, Mary Lyall, spent her widowhood at Peterborough, very probably with the Halls, and is commemorated on their monument at Little Lake Cemetery: one face reads “In memoriam of Adam Hall, died Oct. 4, 1881, aged 77 years; also Catharine Jeffrey, wife of the above, died Feb. 26, 1882, aged 75 years,” and another “Sacred to the memory of Mary Lyall, wife of William Jeffrey, aged 83 years; Isabella Hall, dau. of Adam & Catharine Hall, died June 16 1922, aged 85 years” (record). Mary (Jeffrey) Short’s son Joseph William named a son William Hall Short, in 1877.
