William Jeffrey

Born in Scotland in 1802, he married Mary Wilkie in 1842 and died in 1879; he is buried at St. Paul's Presbyterian Cemetery, Linton, King Township, north of Toronto. Find a Grave and Ward Skinner's compilation make him a son of William Jeffrey and Mary Lyall, and so a brother of Mary (Jeffrey) Short, but family researchers doubt it.

Father
William Jeffrey c. 1772–1852

Find a Grave links him to William Jeffrey and Mary Lyall, and Skinner's compilation includes him, arriving about 1820. But WikiTree notes "considerable doubt among family researchers about William being a part of this family," and John Graham's account of the family has only one son, Andrew. His Ontario death registration (1879) may name his parents.

Notes

Possibly a brother of Mary (Jeffrey) Short. His stone at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Cemetery, Linton, in King Township, York County, reads: “William Jeffrey, 1802-1879; Mary Wilkie his wife, 1820-1904; Christina their daughter, 1849-1867; John Jeffrey, 1852-1926,” with JEFFREY on the base (source). He was born in Scotland in October 1802, by Find a Grave, and Skinner’s compilation has him arriving in Canada about 1820, the year the Jeffreys came. But a second son does not fit John Graham’s “five children, one boy and four girls,” and WikiTree’s profile says family researchers doubt that he belonged to this family. He is kept here as possible, linked so that the evidence for and against can be added.
