His sister Sally (b. 15 Aug 1791, d. 8 May 1868, West Winfield) married Vose Palmer.
- Jotham Chapin (vol. 1, pp. 602-603, 1-4-6-1-1-1): “son Jonathan & Abigail (Munn) Chapin, of Palmer & Monson, Mass. b. Dec. 7, 1764, Monson, d. Winfield, N. Y. m. Ann Waite.” Children: Loring (b. 26 Feb 1790), Sally (b. 15 Aug 1791) and Marvin (b. 1798, “d. Mch. 11, 1816, ae. 18, Monson Cemetery”). His sisters Persis (m. 1789 David Wood, d. 1801 at Winfield) and Anna (m. 1797 Charles Burt) also went to Winfield.
- Capt. Jonathan Chapin (vol. 1, pp. 271-272, 1-4-6-1-1): “son Jonathan & Anna (Hitchcock) Chapin, of Monson & Palmer, Mass. b. Oct. 22, 1738, Palmer, d. Feb. 8, 1819, Monson. m. He enlisted Apr. 6, 1759, discharged Dec. 3, 1759 [printed 1757]. Was in the Invasion of Canada. His grave is in the Monson Cemetery. His brothers Abner and Luke were also in the War. His father was called Jonathan Jr., of the Elbows.” Children, all born at Monson: Jotham (1764), Ann (1767), Persis (1769), Augustin (1772), Gideon (1775), Jonathan (1777), Amasa (1780).
- Jonathan Chapin (vol. 1, pp. 91-92, 1-4-6-1): “son Jonathan & Elizabeth (Burt) Chapin, of Kingsfield or Kingston. Brimfield, Palmer (Elbows) Before June 21, 1733. b. July 8, 1711, d. July 3, 1780, ae. 69, Monson, Mass. 1st m. Dec. 10, 1736, Anna Hitchcock, dau. Ebenezer & Mary (Morgan) Hitchcock, of Brimfield, b. July 9, 1717, d. May 27, 1770, Old Center Cemetery, Palmer”; “2nd. m. May 2, 1771, Bertha Parsons, widow.” (Anna’s mother is corrected by The Genealogy of the Hitchcock Family to Mary Sheldon.)
- Jonathan Chapin (vol. 1, p. 22, 1-4-6): “son David & Lydia (Crump) Chapin. b. Feb. 12, 1665, d. 1710, Monson, Mass. m. Apr. 20, 1710, Elizabeth Burt. Children: CHAPIN. 1 Jonathan b. July 8, 1711. d. July 3, 1780.” “There has been great difficulty in identifying Jonathan Chapin who married Elizabeth Burt. He was concerned in the Land Bank Scheme of 1740, though already living in King’s Field, as Palmer was then called … by a process of elimination we arrive at the theory that Jonathan, son of David and Lydia (Crump) Chapin is our best guess, but absolute proof is impossible.”
- The same marriage and birth in another family. Entry 1-1-10: “JONATHAN CHAPIN, son Japhet & Abilenah (Cooley) Chapin, b. Sept. 23, 1688, d. Feb. 23, 1761. b. and d. Springfield, m. Apr. 20, 1710, Elizabeth Burt, dau Jonathan & Lydia (Dumbleton) Burt, of Longmeadow, b. Feb. 23, 1689, d. Jan. 31, 1769,” with a son Jonathan “b. July 8, 1711.” Entry 1-1-10-1 (p. 52): “JONATHAN CHAPIN, son Jonathan & Elizabeth (Burt) Chapin, of Hampshire Co., Mass. b. July 8, 1711. d. Nov. 12, 1768, age 58, Old Chicopee Cem.,” who married in 1745 Sarah Elizabeth Morse. The book thus gives the marriage of 20 Apr 1710 and the birth of 8 July 1711 to two families.
- Benjamin Munn (vol. 1, pp. 34-35, 1-1-2-6): “son Nathaniel & Sarah (Chapin) Munn, of Brimfield and Monson, Mass. b. Aug. 12, 1700, Springfield, Mass. d. 1775, Monson. m. Dec. 30, 1731, Rebecca Russell, of Brimfield, Mass.” Children: Benjamin Jr. (1732), Joseph (1734), Abner (1736), “Abigail m. 1-4-6-1-1 b. Sept. 14, 1739 … d. Aug. 30, 1838, age 99,” Reuben (1742), Rebekah (1745), Mary (1749) and Jeremy (1754). The entry ends: “Benjamin Munn was in Pequot and Indian War and was given land in Soldiers field,” which belongs to his grandfather Benjamin Munn (Savage).
- Sarah Chapin (vol. 1, p. 10, 1-1-2): “dau. Japhet & Abilenah (Cooley) Chapin, b. Mch. 15, 1668, Springfield, Mass., d. Nov. 23, 1747. m. Mch. 24, 1689/90, Nathaniel Munn, son Benjamin & Abigail Burt (Ball) Munn, b. July 25, 1661, Springfield, d. Dec. 31, 1743.”
- Japhet Chapin (vol. 1, p. 3, 1-1): “son Dea. Samuel & Cicely (Penny) Chapin. bapt. Oct. 15, 1642, Roxbury, Mass., d. Feb. 20, 1712, Springfield, Mass. 1st m. July 22, 1664, Abilenah Cooley, dau. Samuel Cooley, of Milford, Conn., b. 1642, d. Nov. 17, 1710, ae. 68, Springfield”; ten children, Sarah (b. 15 Mar 1668) second; “2nd m. May 31, 1711, Dorothy Root, of Enfield.” “Japhet Chapin probably for time resided in Milford, Conn. John Pynchon deeded land in Springfield to him 1669. He was engaged in the battle with the Indians at Turners Falls in 1676, and was a deacon in the church in Springfield.”
- Deacon Samuel Chapin (vol. 1, pp. vii-xvi, 1-2): the Paignton, Devon, register as certified by the vicar in 1910: “1590. John Chapin & Phillipe Easton 14 Septemb”; “1598. Oct 8, 1598, Paignton, Eng., d. Nov. 11, 1675, Springfield, Mass. m. Feb. 9, 1623, Paignton, Cicely Penny, dau. Henry and Jane Penny, bapt. Feb. 21, 1601, Paignton, d. Feb. 8, 1682/3, Springfield.” Of the Saint-Gaudens statue (p. xvi): “St. Gaudens’ statue, in figure and costume is intended as an ideal of Dea. Samuel Chapin as given by tradition current among his descendants for there is of his face and features no oral or written record in existence.”
