Notes

Ella Browne’s father: a physician and “a long time Sunday School worker,” who followed his family from Winfield, N.Y., to Silver Creek, N.Y., Erie, Pennsylvania (where his sons were born in 1854 and 1856), Dixon, Illinois, and Chicago (source). He married Marion Orinda Cumins at Parkman, Ohio, on 11 February 1847. Widowed in 1889, he lived with Ella and Edward Browne, and died at their home at Lake Park, near Lake Forest, on 2 June 1907, aged 86: “Mr. Chapin was a prominent Presbyterian. When he resided in Dixon he occupied the home of A. Bosworth” (source). His sons were Dr. Frank Woodruff Chapin of New York and Robert L. Chapin, a lumberman of Seattle.

Not to be confused with Marvin Chapin (1807-1899) of Springfield, Mass., a hotel keeper and banker (Unrelated), or with his uncle Marvin (1798-1816).
