Anna Hitchcock
Wife of Jonathan Chapin, one of the first settlers of the Elbows (Palmer), Massachusetts, whom she married in 1736, and probably the mother of Lt. Jonathan Chapin. The eldest of the fourteen children of Capt. Ebenezer Hitchcock of Springfield, probably by his first wife Mary Sheldon, through whom her children descended from John Pynchon and Gov. George Wyllys. She raised nine children at Palmer and died there in 1770.

Notes
Mother of Lt. Jonathan Chapin. She was the eldest of the fourteen children of Capt. Ebenezer Hitchcock of Springfield and his first wife Mary Sheldon: “Anna, b. July 9, 1717; m. Dec. 10, 1736, Jonathan Chapin of the Elbows” (source). She raised nine children at the Elbows (Palmer), the eldest, Anne, dying at nineteen in 1756, and died in 1770; she is buried in the Old Center Cemetery at Palmer (source). Temple’s History of Palmer calls her “Mina” (source).
The Chapin Book made her “dau. Ebenezer & Mary (Morgan) Hitchcock.” The Hitchcock genealogy corrects it: Mary Morgan, a widow of Brimfield, was her father’s second wife. That correction matters, because her mother Mary Sheldon was the granddaughter of Joseph Whiting, Treasurer of Connecticut, and Mary Pynchon, and through them Anna’s children descended from Col. John Pynchon, William Pynchon, the founder of Springfield, and Gov. George Wyllys of Connecticut. Her father’s will left £10 “to his daughter Ann wife of Jonathan Chapin.”
