13 October 2026: Capt. Richard B. Holbrook's sea years, and Queen Emma
- Mollie's Honolulu visit is "possible", not "unlikely." She writes that he and his captain were
"entertained by the King and Queen" and, separately, that he "spoke highly of Queen Emma"; she does
not say Emma was the queen who entertained him. In his Pacific years (1841-50) the king and queen
were Kamehameha III and Kalama, who kept their court at Lahaina until 1845 (
books/mollie/checked.yaml,hb-queen-emma). - His sea years are his two New Bedford whaling voyages, the Hydaspe (1841-45) and the Globe
(1845-50), as set out in Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook (1821-1894): at sea, and at Penn Cove; his page tells his
life as a story from them and from the Penn Cove records, and the checked notes follow (
hb-two-voyagesproven;hb-gold-rushrewritten). - "Captain" is his title, not a claim to check (later the same day). A man who commanded a vessel was its captain, with no schooling or licence asked, and in the West he commanded his own sloop and was one of the captains of Penn Cove's timber trade. Mollie's "gave up the captaincy of a large ship" for the gold rush is marked possible, not disproven; its note says when he came. His vote against the second set of Union resolutions in 1862 stays on his page, told plainly; the thread on him looks into why a Democrat of the territory would have voted so.
13 October 2026: the inconsistencies from the line work, set right
The conflicts found while writing and dividing the lines (Questions to decide, the two lists of 13 October) were cleaned up the same day, each on the records. What remains open is listed in Questions to decide.
- Ratings follow the best record quoted. Raised where a record states the link: Elizabeth Fones's parents (Adam Winthrop's diary; documented, probable, since only the Frost Genealogy says the "seconde daughter" was Elizabeth); Elizabeth Bowne's parents (the Friends' records, "dt John & Hannah"; proven); Sarah Stockbridge's father and Henry Wheeler's (their fathers' wills; documented, probable); Joseph Briscoe (1658)'s parents and the Briscoe-Compton marriage (the Boston records; proven); Samuel Foster (1701)'s mother (the deeds of 1699/1700 and 1722; documented, probable); Job Hawkins's father; John Proctor (1632)'s father; the Windsor Eno chain and Joseph Enos's father (the Windsor church record, Stiles); Isaac Howland's mother and John Howland's marriage (Elizabeth Tilley's will; Bradford); Ella Chapin's mother (her DAR application, her father's obituary); Ruth Brewster's father (the deeds of 1658 and 1661/2); Richard Mather's mother (below); Thomas Riggs's father (his baptism and binding). Kept where the research's higher rating rests on a genealogy alone: Anne Winthrop's mother, Mary Cock's parents, Marion Cumins's parents, the Lyme Marvin and Noyes-Pickett-Brewster chains, Jonathan Chapin of the Elbows' parents (the Chapin Book gives him two fathers), Joseph Sheldon's parents, James Hawkins's father and Mary Greenaway's mother (their records name the other parent only).
- Richard Mather's mother was Elizabeth, as her Dorchester death record (1678), her father-in-law's will (1661) and her children's deed of 1686 name her; "Catharine Atherton" is dropped.
- Benjamin Woodworth came home from King Philip's War: he sat on a Scituate jury in March 1676/7 (King Philip's War: Plymouth Colony and the Rhode Island border over the Fairchild research).
- Jane Maria Deyoe was born 4 Jul 1809 at Pittstown, as her gravestone and the Deyo genealogy have it, not 1803 at Saratoga Springs (the Ancestry tree); her id is now Jane Maria Deyoe.
- Dates: Marion (Cumins) Chapin died 9 Dec 1889 at Wausau (the Chapin genealogies); Mary (Foster) Thompson in March 1837 (the Deer Isle town record, over Hosmer's 1836), born about 1745; Peter Woodbury 28 Mar 1652 (Salem records); Thomas Riggs baptized 25 Mar 1633 at Hawkshead; Katherine (Wise) Mather's death date is unknown (she was living at Dorchester in July 1686; 12 Sept is her father's); the Cumins family went to Ohio about 1840, Hannah (Walbridge) Converse having died at Parkman in 1830, near her son John Phelps Converse; James Hawkins's and Mary (Mills) Hawkins's deaths carry their double years (1669/70, 1692/3).
- Names and titles: Isaac Howland was "Mr.", not a lieutenant; John Pynchon was major in 1675 and colonel from about 1687; Lt. Josiah Converse's father was not a captain; Marion's name is written Cumins, as her records have it (the line keeps the name Cummings, as the generations before her father wrote it); Hannah Read had no middle name ("White" is Mollie's); Ella (Chapin) Browne joined the DAR on six Revolutionary ancestors.
- Counts and places: six deaths in the Tyler and Read families in the autumn of 1775, not seven; Lucy (Bennett) Ellis's death place is unknown; the Riggs house stood at Goose Cove, by Vine Street in Annisquam, as Babson has it; Joseph Somes and Isaac Ellery were the Gloucester men slain at the Narragansett fort; Lucille McMillan is not called an only child.
- Mollie's dates read again from the scans: Thomas Boreman's death "1663 (?" (p. 113), Abigail (Varney) Low's birth "Oct. 4, 1713" (p. 127). Thomas Boreman the elder's "bedstede I made myself" is in his will of 1576, not his inventory. Richard Cheever's credit is on Bodge p. 248.
- Ids by birth year: Adam Cogswell, William Cogswell, John Cogswell, Rebecca Briscoe and Jane Maria Deyoe (their old addresses redirect).
- The research notes stay as written, and these rulings override them where they differ:
The Long Island Quaker families of the Frost line 4.5 (Mary Cock was an aunt, not a great-aunt);
Notable connections of Frances Fairchild Holbrook: the Fairchild branch and the families that married in 2 and 4.1 (Benjamin Woodworth); Notable connections of Patricia Hatten (1940-2009): the paternal Hatten line
1.13, 3.1 and 4 (Elizabeth Mather; Katherine Wise's death); Patricia Hatten's Browne–Chapin side: the pedigree, notable ancestors and famous kin (six
DAR ancestors); King Philip's War: Essex County (and the Eastern war, 1675-78) (Somes slain) and
King_Philips_War_Register.md(Goose Cove); Low Line Research: Harriet Phillips Low's father's side, Mollie Frances Holbrook Pfeiffer's typescript: a claim-by-claim review T2 and Mollie's claims, checked in the Holbrook-Low Colonial Tree (1663, 1713); Tyler and Ginn Line Research: Hannah Read Tyler's ancestry (six deaths; Thomas Millett dead by 28 Sept 1675); Woodbury, Rand–Cheever–Ivory and Slater lines behind the Ellingwoods (Bodge p. 248); Ellingwood line: the wives' families (Pattullo and Short, Adams and Deyoe, Rice and Sylvester) (Jane Deyoe's stone reads 1809); Notable ancestors in the Holbrook-Low Colonial Tree,stories.mdandresearch-cases.md(Hannah Read; Lt. Isaac Howland; Mary Foster's death).
13 October 2026: the lines
- Collins and Reed are one line (Collins and Reed), as interconnected families that went west together; the Collins and Reed line files are merged into it, and their old addresses redirect there.
- The Pattullos and Shorts have a line of their own (Pattullo and Short): Ruth (Short) Ellingwood's ancestry. The Ellingwood line now stops at Ruth.
- The Dwyer and Hatten lines come down to the present, as the Ellingwood line does: Dwyer to Lynn by her father's line, Hatten to Patricia.
- Where lines are drawn (
PLAN.md, "The lines: where to draw them"): a woman's family becomes a line of its own when the archive carries it four generations or more above her; fourteen new lines follow from it, and every ancestor is to stand in at least one line. Names are settled as each line is made. - William Read is not linked to the Reeds below him: where the line is drawn through time, his life is a dot at its years, apart from the chain.
- Each new line begins with the woman who married in, so it is easy to follow where it joins a line already known (Jennie Elliott's family is one line, Elliott and Adams, with the Deyos and Freers in it). Bruner and Pattullo and Short stay as lines though three generations deep. The largest new lines are to be divided again once the fourteen are made and read.
12 October 2026: the Adam Haberkorn picture
- The picture captioned "Adam Haberkorn b.1800 d.1890" (shared on Ancestry, 2026) is AI-generated, not a photograph of him. It is removed from the Gallery and not to be added again.
11 October 2026: from the Ancestry images
Ruled on the conflicts the day's Ancestry images raised (Questions to decide):
- Richard Clifford Holbrook's birthplace: Tacoma, from his 1955 obituary ("a native of Tacoma, Wash."), over the Collins-Reed master tree's Seattle (Richard Clifford Holbrook).
- His death date: 30 Nov 1955 kept; the obituary's "died Thursday" (1 Dec) stays in the note, not worth pursuing further.
- His rank: a captain in the Naval Reserve who commanded the 130th Seabee Battalion, as the obituary has it, over the family's memory of a lieutenant.
- Matilda (Collins) Davis's birth: 10 May 1831, from her death certificate, over the FamilySearch tree's 1830 (Matilda Collins).
- The Short and Jeffrey family group: the names on the back of the print are mistaken in places;
one of the women it calls John's aunt or mother is probably his wife, Mary (Pattullo) Short
(
gallery/short-jeffrey-family-group.md). - Eli W. Clifford's wife: left open; perhaps the Gertrude of his death certificate and the "Mrs. Mary E. Cavey [?]" of 1902 are one woman.
- Elizabeth (Davis) Myers's husband: believed in the family to be Ira Myers; recorded as a possibility, not a fact (Elizabeth Jane Davis).
10 October 2026: pages for the brothers and sisters
Jordan ruled (Questions to decide, the Short-Pattullo item): "I think we should make pages for the aunts and uncles ... so that we have the full picture here and can add research as we go," with the anecdotes and the obituaries on them. So each generation of Ruth (Short) Ellingwood's line now has pages for its brothers and sisters, not only names in their parents' notes:
- John G. Short's: Jane (Jane Short), Richard (Richard Short), Joseph William (Joseph William Short), Mary Blair (Mary Blair Short) and Isabella, Mrs. James Hay (Isabella Short).
- Mary Pattullo's: Alexander (Alexander Pattullo), Thomas Robson (Thomas Robson Pattullo),
Jane (Jane Pattullo), William (William Pattullo), Margaret (Margaret Pattullo),
Isabella (Isabella Pattullo), George Robson (George Robson Pattullo), Lucinda
(Lucinda Pattullo) and Andrew (Andrew Pattullo). Duff Pattullo, the writer George
Pattullo, Andrew and Thomas now come down
viathese pages in Notable connections. - Mary Jeffrey's: Andrew (Andrew Jeffrey), Isabella (Isabella Jeffrey), Jean (Jean Jeffrey), Catharine (Catharine Jeffrey) and, linked as possible, William (William Jeffrey).
- Jane Robson's: Margaret (Margaret Robson), James (James Robson) and Euphemia (Euphemia Robson).
- Halkett Pattullo's: James (James Pattullo), Jane (Jane Pattullo), Margaret (Margaret Pattullo) and Thomas (Thomas Pattullo).
Their own children stay as names in the notes, as before. New sources for the pages: Andrew Jeffrey's obituary (Obituary of the Hon. Andrew Jeffrey, M.L.C., Cobourg Sentinel, 1 Aug 1863), the Trent University Archives on his firm (Trent University Archives, "A. Jeffrey & Son" (authority record), and the Cobourg and District Historical Society list of mayors), Cochrane's sketch of Andrew Pattullo (William Cochrane, The Canadian Album: Men of Canada (1892): Andrew Pattullo), the Legislative Assembly's record of him (Legislative Assembly of Ontario, member record: Andrew Pattulo; with Wikipedia, "Andrew Pattulo") and the Oxford County Archives on the Sentinel-Review (Oxford County Archives, "The Woodstock Sentinel-Review"; with Doors Open Woodstock, "Museum Square" (the Pattullo Fountain)).
9 October 2026: who Maud Holbrook was
Jordan ruled (Questions to decide, the item now removed): "this Maude Holbrook was Maude Elizabeth Noel Morilon, later Wallace." The case is set out in Capt. Richard B. Holbrook Jr.'s second family in South Dakota ("Who Maud was"). In short: the Pollock death records name Richard's survivors as "Maude Holbrook and Donald and Douglas" (Sept 1923); Hiram M. Wallace of the Pollock neighbourhood married "Maude Noel" in 1923 (his 1935 state census card); in 1930 Hiram's wife Maud, born in Illinois to English parents, had a stepson Donald, born in Washington, and Douglas, born in Montana; and in 1940 Donald John Morilon, born at Seattle on 19 July 1911, named his mother as "Mrs. Maude Elizabeth Wallace, Pollock." The Bismarck Tribune's "Donald, age 5" (he was 12) is set down as a reporter's error.
- Maud is now Maud Elizabeth Noel (was
maud-holbrook-fl1923): Maud Elizabeth Noel (1888-1986), daughter of Samuel Hall Noel (Samuel Hall Noel) and Elizabeth N. Todd (Elizabeth N. Todd); married John R. Morilon (John Randolph Morilon) in 1910 and Hiram M. Wallace (Hiram Marion Wallace) in 1923. - The boys were Maud's sons by John R. Morilon, and Richard's stepsons, not his sons: Donald
John Morilon, born John Noel Morilon at Seattle in 1911 (Donald John Morilon, was
donald-holbrook-1918), and Douglas Noel Morilon, born at Helena in 1916 (Douglas Noel Morilon, wasdouglas-holbrook-1916). - Richard and Maud lived as husband and wife, but no marriage has been found and both were still married to others; Jordan: "It's also pretty unlikely that Richard and Maude ever legally married. Why would they need to anyways?"
9 October 2026: Jessie's 1920 household was in Seattle
Jordan's copy of the census sheet (the project file Mariah-Emma-Dunlap-Bruner-Census-1920.pdf)
is headed Washington, King County, Seattle City, Precinct 94, enumerated 5 Jan 1920: Jessie,
heading her own household on Mercer Street in a house she owned, with her sons, her mother Emma
Dunlap, a boarder and two nephews. The research notes' "Grays Harbor County" (source S37 in
Collins-Reed Family Research: From Colonial Virginia to the American West, and the master trees) was a slip. The source is now
1920 U.S. census, Seattle, King County, Washington, household of Jessie Holbrook (Mercer Street) (was census-1920-grays-harbor-jessie-holbrook), and Jessie's,
Phil's and Emma's pages say Seattle.
8 October 2026: researched generations become pages
Jordan: "let's please use it to our advantage to make as many detailed people pages in our archive"
as the research supports. The generations researched for Notable connections and held as questions
(Questions to decide: the Woodbury, Rand, Deyo and Rowlandson generations on the Ellingwood side; the
Marvin, Mather and Brewster generations on the Hatten side, items 24 and 27) are brought in as pages
wherever the research rates them probable or better. A single possible step does not stop a
well-documented family above it from having pages: the step is linked and labelled possible where it
happens (Benjamin Underhill to David Underhill; Jonathan Fairchild of East Jewett to the Norwalk
Fairchilds), and the pages and connections above it say they rest on it. Where a link is contradicted
by evidence rather than merely unproven, it stays a name. This does not settle the held connections: the Browne-Chapin kin wait on Henrietta's parentage
(item 22) and the Soule kin on Sybil Sawdy's mother (item 29).
8 October 2026: Walter Allee, not William
Jordan agreed (Questions to decide, item 28): the Ancestry tree's "William Buford Allee" was the wrong man.
- Sybil Sawdy's husband was Walter Allee (c. 1796-1866) of Jefferson and Lenox, Ashtabula
County, Ohio (Memorial to the Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve, 1896; the 1850 and 1860 Lenox
census index). His page is now Walter Allee (was
william-allee-1797). William Buford Allee (1797-1874) of Barren County, Kentucky, and Moniteau County, Missouri, his parents Rev. David Allee and Charity Delila Bybee, and his Missouri family are Unrelated and left out. - Emery Delos Allee (1855-1951) was Albert Allee's son, not Walter's. His page is now
Emery Delos Allee (was
emery-allee-1840); the tree's 1840 Ohio birth is dropped.
8 October 2026: weighing Cudge's memoir
Jordan's ruling: treat the memoir as what it is, a man in his seventies writing down his life in 1968-70. He is likely to be right about his own life but may misremember. Where a harder record gives a date (a certificate, a register, a contemporary newspaper report), go with the record; where the other accounts are no harder than the memoir (obituaries and family summaries written later), go with the memoir.
- Dick became president of the company in 1960. The memoir (scan 174, p. J3) describes the handover: "In 1960, Dick and Ruth and I decided that he was ready to take over as president of the company," and Cudge called the employees together and went part-time. The other dates are later summaries: Cudge's obituary (Spokane Chronicle, 6 Mar 1985, in the memoir's back papers) has him president "until 1964, when he was named chairman of the board," and Dick's obituary (2019) has "president ... from 1963." The 1964 step may be a formal change of title; the pages give 1960 and mention the others.
- The 1923 family agreement (scan 196, at the back of the memoir) is quoted on Jennie's and Wink's pages like the rest of the memoir, though it is not Cudge's own telling.
8 October 2026: the recent generations, by family knowledge
- Links the family knows first-hand are proven. Jordan: "the link between me and my parents is
obviously proven" (he has seen his birth certificate). On the same common sense, the links of
the generations the family knew are raised from the Ancestry tree's
probabletoproven: Jordan to John and Lynn; John to his mother Frances; Lynn to her mother Patricia, and Eric and Jennifer to theirs; John and Lynn, Jerome and Patricia, Jack Hatten and Margaret Kuchenmeister as couples; Patricia to Jack and Margaret; Margaret to Joseph Kuchenmeister and Theresa Panian; Frances to Richard Clifford Holbrook and Lucille McMillan (also in the 1940 and 1950 censuses), and Richard Clifford to Richard Jr. and Jessie (1910 and 1920). Joseph and Theresa's marriage (1899) and Henry Tisdell and Elizabeth Connelly's (1860) rest on their records; William Bell and Adeline Fairchild were both proven parents of Lucy Bell. - Richard Everett Ellingwood Jr. died at Wickenburg, Arizona, where he lived (Jordan: he died in Arizona, and it was recent). FamilySearch's Glendale is not followed.
- Smaller fixes made with these, from writing the summaries: Sarah Allee born at Chicago, Cook (not "Cork"); Joseph Cumins died at Grand Detour, Ogle (not "Olge"); Marjeta Sneler's "Stari Trg, Slovenj Gradec" taken as Stari trg ob Kolpi near Črnomelj, where her husband and son died; James Reed's 1840 Morgan County household probable, not proven, as his notes say; Jurji Panian's marriage entered once, not twice. Other disagreements the summaries found (old links the notes state more firmly than the data) wait for the research; the summaries keep the data's hedges.
7 October 2026: Richard B. Holbrook Jr.'s death
- Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr. died at Bismarck, North Dakota, on 22 Sept 1923. Settled by a record Jordan found: his North Dakota certificate of death (Certificate of death of Richard Holbrook, Bismarck, Burleigh County, North Dakota, 22 Sept 1923). The Richard Holbrook of Pollock, S. Dak., farmer, 51, was born "Sept 16" in Washington, his father born in Maine and his mother's maiden name "Phillips," born in Maine; the informant was "Mrs Maud Holbrook, Pollock S. Dakota." His own birthday and his mother's name given as "Phillips," as he gave it himself on his 1900 marriage return ("Hattie Phillips"), identify him; Jordan: "it definitely is him." His sister Mollie's typescript had the day and the state. This supersedes the 2 Oct entry on his death.
- He had a second family: his wife Maud and sons Douglas (b. c. 1916) and Donald (b. c. 1918), at Pollock, South Dakota. No marriage record, and no divorce from Jessie, has been found; Jessie's "widow" of Nov 1922 is unexplained. Followed as a research thread (Capt. Richard B. Holbrook Jr.'s second family in South Dakota).
- The death certificate's "length of residence" of 2 days is his time in Bismarck, the city where he died, not at Pollock.
6 October 2026: labels raised where the records name the parent
Jordan agreed that links the records now support should say so (Questions to decide, colonial tree item 4).
- Documented, proven (a will, estate agreement, gravestone or colony record states it): Rebecca Delano's father (the 1682 agreement on Philip Delano's estate); Hannah and Mary Pontus's father (William Pontus's will, 1650); Abigail Pierce's father (Michael Pierce's will, "my daughter, Abigail Holbrook"); Mary (Bassett) Mulford's death (her gravestone, MD 13:198); Capt. Michael Pierce's death (Rev. Noah Newman's letter of 27 Mar 1676, printed by Deane); and Thomas Prence's marriage to Mary Collier, 1 Apr 1635 (PCR 1).
- Documented, still probable (the birth record names the parent by first name, and who she or he was rests on the parent's marriage): Joshua Riggs's and Thomas Riggs Jr.'s mothers, James Stanwood's mother, John Stanwood's father and mother, Abigail Allen's father (Gloucester and Salisbury VR), and Mary Millett's mother (the Dorchester record as printed in NEHGR 5).
6 October 2026: the Low master research
- The Low master research file (Low Master Research, first edition, 6 Oct
- is the current research for the Low male line, from Thomas Low of Chebacco to Harriet
Phillips Low, and overrides
Low_Line_Research.mdand Mollie's typescript where they differ.Low_Line_Research.mdstays the full treatment of the wives' lines (Boreman, Lamb, Wise, Tompson, Varney, Proctor, Cogswell, Lord, Fuller, Emerson; Thompson, Foster, Kneeland and the rest), which the new file only summarizes. Jordan asked for the archive to be updated from it.
- is the current research for the Low male line, from Thomas Low of Chebacco to Harriet
Phillips Low, and overrides
- Settled by records it found (no ruling needed):
- Harriet's birth: 12 June 1834, not 1839. The Deer Isle town record, the 1850 census (16), the 1870 (36) and 1900 ("June 1834") censuses and her 1918 death certificate agree.
- The four links from Harriet up to Nathan Low of Boxford are proven: Harriet's birth record, the 1850 census, the 1887 power of attorney and her death certificate (father "Capt. Lowe"); Capt. Nathan's birth record (24 Mar 1805), his 1838 deed as "Nathan Low Jun." and his 1859 letters of administration on his father's estate; Nathan of Boxford's will of 1803 ("my son Nathan Low"), with the Deer Isle family Bible, the East Boxford baptisms and the 1850 census.
- The man who died on 17 Sept 1874 was Capt. Nathan: his widow's petition in the Hancock County probate says so. Who "B. F. Law," the Paragon's master in the Portland paper, was stays an open question on his page.
- Capt. Nathan married Hannah Read Tyler on 16 Sept 1832 (Maine vital records index), not Mollie's 4 Oct 1832.
- Thomas Low the immigrant > Deacon Thomas is proven: the 1677 will gives "my Sonne Thomas Low" thirty pounds (Probate Records of Essex County 3:175-177). The will was written 20 Apr and signed 30 Apr 1677, which settles the two dates in the abstracts.
- Page IDs renamed to the birth years now known:
nathan-low-1804is Nathan Low,rebecca-thompson-d1836is Rebecca Thompson, anddaniel-low-fl1874is Daniel Webster Low (Capt. Daniel Webster Low).
5 October 2026 (late night): the Malmö family ruled out
- The Pålsson family of Malmö is not Anna Mary Paulson's. Their daughter Anna Mathilda Pålsson (b. 28 Mar 1874, S:t Petri) married the lithographer Karl Axel Löfström in Malmö on 14 June 1902 and was there in 1909, while our Anna had married in Nebraska in 1896; her mother and brothers (except Johan Alfred, John A. Paulson of New York) stayed in Malmö. This supersedes the three entries below on the Pålsson family and Kersti Andersdotter's parents. Anna's birth is back to December 1871, Sweden (Anna Mary Paulson); her parents are pages for what her records say and no more (Nils Paulson, Christine Anderson); the fifteen Malmö, Oxie and Svedala pages are removed. Their sources and two Gallery images stay, labelled as unrelated.
- The Riseberga ancestry stays out (Jordan): it was an Ancestry hint, as unsupported as Malmö.
- The case is written up in Anna Mary Paulson's Swedish origins: an open case: what is known, both red herrings, the searches done, and where to look next (Otoe County, Nebraska, first).
5 October 2026 (night)
- The Pålsson family confirmed further by Jordan's finds: the 1880 census (Malmö S:t Petri, with Anna Matilda), the Malmö family census of 1887-1897 (widow Kjersti Pålsson and the children), and Johan Alfred as John A. Paulson of New York (married Brooklyn 1903, died Manhattan 1924), whose records name his parents Nils Paulson and Kerstin Anderson, as Anna's do. The children's birthplace in the 1886 roll is "Förs." (this parish), not Fosie: all were born in Malmö S:t Petri.
- Kersti Andersdotter's parents are Anders Jönsson (b. 1805) and Karna Persdotter (b. 1812) of Hyltarp, Svedala (Svedala AI:11, p. 314, as abstracted on FamilySearch; her birth date 20 Sep 1844 matches the Malmö rolls). The tree's Riseberga ancestry for her (Anders Nilsson, Katarina Johansdotter and ten more back to Nils Larsson Björk) belongs to another Kristina, b. 1846, and is removed with its nine Swedish sources; the GEDCOM keeps it.
- Nils Pålsson's parents are Pål Pehrsson and Boel Andersdotter of Oxie (baptism index, born 9 Jul, christened 10 Jul 1842; the Malmö roll's "2/7" is clearly written, so one of the two dates is a copying error). Probable: the only Oxie Nils of 1842 with a father Pål.
5 October 2026 (evening)
- Anna Mary Paulson's Swedish family, found. Jordan found the Malmö household examination roll
of 1886-1890 (Malmö household examination roll, 1886-1890: the Pålsson household): Nils Pålson, gardener, b. Oxie 2 Jul 1842,
d. 8 Jan 1886; Kersti Anderson, b. Svedala 20 Sep 1844; married 18 Oct 1869; children born at
"Förs." (S:t Petri; first misread as Fosie): Johan Alfred 1870, Karl Peter 1872, Anna Matilda 28 Mar 1874, Bernhard Ulrik 1878, Axel
Viktor 1881, Pål Josef 1883; widow and children to S:t Pauli, Malmö, Nov 1886. Accepted as
probable for Anna's family (parents' names, "Anna M.", the 1874 baptism, and her sons Bernard,
Joseph and Paul), against her American birth year of 1871. Nils and Kersti's pages take these
facts at probable. Later the same evening Jordan accepted the household as hers: her birth
is now 28 Mar 1874 at Malmö S:t Petri (the American "Dec 1871" very probably misremembered), the IDs are
Anna Mary Paulson,
nils-paulson-1842andchristine-anderson-1844, and her five brothers have pages. Two 1880/1890 census candidates were ruled out: a Nils Pålsson b. 1842 at Barsebäck (wife Boel Persdotter) and a widowed Kerstin Andersdotter b. 1844 at Lilla Slågarp, in the Västra Alstad poorhouse in 1890. Her birth date stays December 1871 until the 1890 census or the 1891 emigration confirms the family; Ven is now unlikely, and the tree's Riseberga parents for Christine doubtful.
5 October 2026 (later)
- Jerome Dwyer's "franchise." Jordan withdraws the family memory of Jerome starting his own
franchise of a San Francisco printing company (
Dwyer_Master_Research.md, section 1). The account now used: Edwin founded the Edwin C. Dwyer Company at Seattle in 1935; Jerome, who worked in it under him, took it over after his death in 1969; Jerome passed it to his son Eric after 2000 (as corrected below). - Cornelius Dwyer's funeral record (Gantner, Felder, Kenny, San Francisco, 1941) names his parents John Dwyer and Mary Ryan, both born in Ireland, and gives his birthplace as "Jackson Hill, New York" (not yet identified; Black Brook and Troy stay in play). His death notice names Henry and Agnes among his children, so the tree's "Cris S. Thyer" and his Thyer children are a misreading of C. S. Dwyer, not another Martha: the research file's "another Martha merged with her" is withdrawn.
- The business, corrected the same day. Jordan's fuller account: Jerome worked in the company under his father and took it over soon after Edwin's death in 1969; he passed it to his son Eric sometime after 2000. ("After 2000" is when Eric took over, not Jerome.) Winifred's "retired owner" (2003 obituary) suggests she kept a share; how ownership passed is open.
- Winifred Dwyer's age at death is 101 (1 Nov 1901 - 30 May 2003), as her records say.
- Anna Mary Paulson's birthplace is "Sweden" until a record says more. "Landskrona, Isle of Ven" in Jordan's Ancestry tree has no record behind it (the records cited give only "Sweden"), and the Dwyer research file found no home parish. The 2026-10-04 import report and earlier pages repeated the tree's Ven as fact; that is withdrawn. At Jordan's wish Ven stays on her page as possible (it fits Landskrona, and someone may have had a reason to enter it), with the Blaeu map in the Gallery.
- Cornelius Dwyer's father is John Dwyer, husband of Mary Ryan (Black Brook 1860-1870, Cohoes 1875, Birch Cooley 1880, Bandon 1885), as before; his 1941 funeral record names the same parents. The "John Frederick Dwyer" of Kilkenny and Faribault on Ancestry and FamilySearch is the merged Rice County man, and stays disproven for this family.
5 October 2026
- The Dwyer and McMillan-Frost master research files (
research/dwyer/,research/mcmillan/) are the current research for those lines and override Jordan's Ancestry tree where they differ. - John Dwyer, father of Cornelius, is not "John Frederick Dwyer" of Gowran. Jordan's tree and FamilySearch had merged him with John Dwyer of Rice County, husband of Mary Shanahan (d. 1895, Faribault), and given him the Gowran baptism of 1816 and parents Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh, which no record ties to him. Removed from the archive: Martin Dwyer, Mary Walsh, her parents Richard Walsh and Mary Dowling, the Gowran brothers Thomas, Patrick and Edmund, and nine children who were never in John and Mary Ryan's household (Timothy 1847, George 1856, James 1857, Michael 1857, Dan 1859, Thomas 1859, Joseph 1861, Edward 1863, John 1842). John and Mary's children are those of the 1860-1880 censuses: Mary Ellen, William, Mary Ann, Margaret, Kate, John J. and Cornelius.
- George "Tisdell" (b. c. 1861) in Henry Tisdell's 1870 household was probably his orphaned nephew George Chisholm; removed as Henry's son.
- Sylvia Pauline Paulson is recorded as Anna Mary Paulson, the name on her marriage and death records ("Sylvia Pauline" kept as an alternative name). Page IDs renamed to match: anna-paulson-1871, james-flynn-1846, anna-owens-1845, margaret-dwyer-1856.
4 October 2026
- Israel Ellingwood (1714) is the son of Ralph III (1694-1728/9) and Sarah Woodbury. The case is closed. Ralph II's will of 1741 names "my Two Grandsons Israel Elinwood & Ralph Elinwood" and "the Children of my Son Ralph Elinwood Decd"; the Beverly register's family of Ralph and Sarah Ellingwood lists Israel second; the 1743 division of Ralph III's estate gives Israel the eldest son's double share. Leonard Ellinwood's version (1963: Israel a son of Ralph II by a third wife, Sarah Woodbury) is disproven, not kept as an alternative reading; it stays on Israel's page only as a disproven claim, with the reason. Jordan asked for one answer, not two (October 2026). (Ellingwood Master Research)
- The Ellingwood master files (
Ellingwood_Master_Family_Tree.md,Ellingwood_Master_Research.md) are the current research for the line from Ralph I to Dick, and override Jordan's Ancestry tree where they differ. Where Cudge's memoir is the better witness (Dick's birth on 15 November, his sisters' birth dates), the memoir stands. - Dick Ellingwood's page is public. He died in 2019 (Jordan's tree), so it is no longer a living person's page.
- The deeper generations of the GEDCOM stay out (beyond the 4th-great-grandparents) until
their sources are in. Jordan added them from Ancestry hints without attaching sources; he will
look up specific records where asked (
research/gedcom/ancestry-lookups.md). - Dick and Frances's wedding day stays open (19 or 26 March 1955).
2 October 2026 (later)
Jordan reviewed the main points in Questions to decide:
- Sally Ginn's father, Mercy (Nye?) Ellis, Mary (Foster) Thompson's father, and Harriet Lowe's birth year: unknown. They stay as recorded and are research tasks, not decisions.
- Elizabeth Stream as mother of John Holbrook (c. 1650): not accepted yet. Lowered to possible until the source behind Mollie's line is found. (6 Oct: "Mollie's line" here was a slip in the write-up. Mollie's typescript does not name Elizabeth Stream; the link comes from the Holbrook master tree, which places John among her children by his birth date. The ruling stands: possible until a record names his mother.)
- James Reed's death: still open. Jordan's Appanoose County reasoning turned out to be about Jesse Collins and is recorded on Jesse's page.
2 October 2026
- Death of Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr. The death at Bismarck, North
Dakota, on 23 Sep 1923 is another Richard Holbrook's and is not used. The Collins-Reed
master tree,
meredith_collins_research.mdand the FamilySearch tree still carry it. His death is recorded as between 1919 and November 1922, place unknown: alive in the 1919 Seattle directory, absent from the 1920 one and from Jessie's January 1920 household (where she is married), and Jessie is called a widow in November 1922. No death record found in Washington, Alaska or California. Jordan suspects he died or disappeared in Alaska; that is a guess, not a finding. (Superseded 7 Oct 2026: the death certificate shows the Bismarck death was his.)
# Research decisionsRulings on conflicts between research files, newest first. A decision hereoverrides anything older in `research/`, including the master trees.## 13 October 2026: Capt. Richard B. Holbrook's sea years, and Queen Emma- **Mollie's Honolulu visit is "possible", not "unlikely."** She writes that he and his captain were"entertained by the King and Queen" and, separately, that he "spoke highly of Queen Emma"; she doesnot say Emma was the queen who entertained him. In his Pacific years (1841-50) the king and queenwere Kamehameha III and Kalama, who kept their court at Lahaina until 1845 (`books/mollie/checked.yaml`,`hb-queen-emma`).- **His sea years are his two New Bedford whaling voyages**, the Hydaspe (1841-45) and the Globe(1845-50), as set out in `holbrook/richard-holbrook-at-sea-and-penn-cove.md`; his page tells hislife as a story from them and from the Penn Cove records, and the checked notes follow (`hb-two-voyages`proven; `hb-gold-rush` rewritten).- **"Captain" is his title, not a claim to check** (later the same day). A man who commanded a vesselwas its captain, with no schooling or licence asked, and in the West he commanded his own sloop andwas one of the captains of Penn Cove's timber trade. Mollie's "gave up the captaincy of a large ship"for the gold rush is marked possible, not disproven; its note says when he came. His vote againstthe second set of Union resolutions in 1862 stays on his page, told plainly; the thread on himlooks into why a Democrat of the territory would have voted so.## 13 October 2026: the inconsistencies from the line work, set rightThe conflicts found while writing and dividing the lines (`to-decide.md`, the two lists of 13 October)were cleaned up the same day, each on the records. What remains open is listed in `to-decide.md`.- **Ratings follow the best record quoted.** Raised where a record states the link: Elizabeth Fones'sparents (Adam Winthrop's diary; documented, probable, since only the *Frost Genealogy* says the"seconde daughter" was Elizabeth); Elizabeth Bowne's parents (the Friends' records, "dt John &Hannah"; proven); Sarah Stockbridge's father and Henry Wheeler's (their fathers' wills; documented, probable); Joseph Briscoe (1658)'s parents and the Briscoe-Compton marriage (the Boston records;proven); Samuel Foster (1701)'s mother (the deeds of 1699/1700 and 1722; documented, probable); JobHawkins's father; John Proctor (1632)'s father; the Windsor Eno chain and Joseph Enos's father (theWindsor church record, Stiles); Isaac Howland's mother and John Howland's marriage (ElizabethTilley's will; Bradford); Ella Chapin's mother (her DAR application, her father's obituary); RuthBrewster's father (the deeds of 1658 and 1661/2); Richard Mather's mother (below); Thomas Riggs'sfather (his baptism and binding). Kept where the research's higher rating rests on a genealogyalone: Anne Winthrop's mother, Mary Cock's parents, Marion Cumins's parents, the Lyme Marvin andNoyes-Pickett-Brewster chains, Jonathan Chapin of the Elbows' parents (the Chapin Book gives himtwo fathers), Joseph Sheldon's parents, James Hawkins's father and Mary Greenaway's mother (theirrecords name the other parent only).- **Richard Mather's mother was Elizabeth**, as her Dorchester death record (1678), herfather-in-law's will (1661) and her children's deed of 1686 name her; "Catharine Atherton" isdropped.- **Benjamin Woodworth came home from King Philip's War**: he sat on a Scituate jury in March1676/7 (`research/king-philips-war/Plymouth_Colony.md` over the Fairchild research).- **Jane Maria Deyoe was born 4 Jul 1809 at Pittstown**, as her gravestone and the Deyo genealogyhave it, not 1803 at Saratoga Springs (the Ancestry tree); her id is now `jane-deyoe-1809`.- **Dates:** Marion (Cumins) Chapin died 9 Dec 1889 at Wausau (the Chapin genealogies); Mary(Foster) Thompson in March 1837 (the Deer Isle town record, over Hosmer's 1836), born about 1745;Peter Woodbury 28 Mar 1652 (Salem records); Thomas Riggs baptized 25 Mar 1633 at Hawkshead; Katherine(Wise) Mather's death date is unknown (she was living at Dorchester in July 1686; 12 Sept is herfather's); the Cumins family went to Ohio about 1840, Hannah (Walbridge) Converse having died atParkman in 1830, near her son John Phelps Converse; James Hawkins's and Mary (Mills) Hawkins'sdeaths carry their double years (1669/70, 1692/3).- **Names and titles:** Isaac Howland was "Mr.", not a lieutenant; John Pynchon was major in 1675and colonel from about 1687; Lt. Josiah Converse's father was not a captain; Marion's name iswritten Cumins, as her records have it (the line keeps the name Cummings, as the generationsbefore her father wrote it); Hannah Read had no middle name ("White" is Mollie's); Ella (Chapin)Browne joined the DAR on six Revolutionary ancestors.- **Counts and places:** six deaths in the Tyler and Read families in the autumn of 1775, not seven;Lucy (Bennett) Ellis's death place is unknown; the Riggs house stood at Goose Cove, by Vine Streetin Annisquam, as Babson has it; Joseph Somes and Isaac Ellery were the Gloucester men slain at theNarragansett fort; Lucille McMillan is not called an only child.- **Mollie's dates read again from the scans:** Thomas Boreman's death "1663 (?" (p. 113), Abigail(Varney) Low's birth "Oct. 4, 1713" (p. 127). Thomas Boreman the elder's "bedstede I made myself"is in his will of 1576, not his inventory. Richard Cheever's credit is on Bodge p. 248.- **Ids by birth year:** `adam-cogswell-1667`, `william-cogswell-1620`, `john-cogswell-1592`,`rebecca-briscoe-1679` and `jane-deyoe-1809` (their old addresses redirect).- **The research notes stay as written**, and these rulings override them where they differ:`mcmillan/Frost_Underhill_Bowne_Feake.md` 4.5 (Mary Cock was an aunt, not a great-aunt);`mcmillan/Fairchild_Raymond_Woodworth.md` 2 and 4.1 (Benjamin Woodworth); `hatten/Hatten_Philbrick_Marvin.md`1.13, 3.1 and 4 (Elizabeth Mather; Katherine Wise's death); `hatten/Browne_Chapin_Cumins.md` (sixDAR ancestors); `king-philips-war/Essex_and_the_East.md` (Somes slain) and`King_Philips_War_Register.md` (Goose Cove); `low/Low_Line_Research.md`,`holbrook/Mollie_Typescript_Review.md` T2 and `colonial-tree/mollie-claims.md` (1663, 1713);`low/Tyler_Ginn_Line_Research.md` (six deaths; Thomas Millett dead by 28 Sept 1675);`ellingwood/Ellingwood_Woodbury_Rand.md` (Bodge p. 248); `ellingwood/Ellingwood_Wives_Families.md`(Jane Deyoe's stone reads 1809); `colonial-tree/notable-ancestors.md`, `stories.md` and`research-cases.md` (Hannah Read; Lt. Isaac Howland; Mary Foster's death).## 13 October 2026: the lines- **Collins and Reed are one line** (`lines/collins-reed.md`), as interconnected families that wentwest together; the Collins and Reed line files are merged into it, and their old addressesredirect there.- **The Pattullos and Shorts have a line of their own** (`lines/pattullo-short.md`): Ruth (Short)Ellingwood's ancestry. The Ellingwood line now stops at Ruth.- **The Dwyer and Hatten lines come down to the present**, as the Ellingwood line does: Dwyer toLynn by her father's line, Hatten to Patricia.- **Where lines are drawn** (`PLAN.md`, "The lines: where to draw them"): a woman's family becomes aline of its own when the archive carries it four generations or more above her; fourteen newlines follow from it, and every ancestor is to stand in at least one line. Names are settled aseach line is made.- **William Read** is not linked to the Reeds below him: where the line is drawn through time, hislife is a dot at its years, apart from the chain.- **Each new line begins with the woman who married in**, so it is easy to follow where it joins aline already known (Jennie Elliott's family is one line, Elliott and Adams, with the Deyos andFreers in it). Bruner and Pattullo and Short stay as lines though three generations deep. Thelargest new lines are to be divided again once the fourteen are made and read.## 12 October 2026: the Adam Haberkorn picture- **The picture captioned "Adam Haberkorn b.1800 d.1890"** (shared on Ancestry, 2026) isAI-generated, not a photograph of him. It is removed from the Gallery and not to be added again.## 11 October 2026: from the Ancestry imagesRuled on the conflicts the day's Ancestry images raised (`to-decide.md`):- **Richard Clifford Holbrook's birthplace:** Tacoma, from his 1955 obituary ("a native of Tacoma,Wash."), over the Collins-Reed master tree's Seattle (`richard-holbrook-1902`).- **His death date:** 30 Nov 1955 kept; the obituary's "died Thursday" (1 Dec) stays in the note, not worth pursuing further.- **His rank:** a captain in the Naval Reserve who commanded the 130th Seabee Battalion, as theobituary has it, over the family's memory of a lieutenant.- **Matilda (Collins) Davis's birth:** 10 May 1831, from her death certificate, over the FamilySearchtree's 1830 (`matilda-collins-1830`).- **The Short and Jeffrey family group:** the names on the back of the print are mistaken in places;one of the women it calls John's aunt or mother is probably his wife, Mary (Pattullo) Short(`gallery/short-jeffrey-family-group.md`).- **Eli W. Clifford's wife:** left open; perhaps the Gertrude of his death certificate and the "Mrs.Mary E. Cavey [?]" of 1902 are one woman.- **Elizabeth (Davis) Myers's husband:** believed in the family to be Ira Myers; recorded as apossibility, not a fact (`elizabeth-davis-1883`).## 10 October 2026: pages for the brothers and sistersJordan ruled (`to-decide.md`, the Short-Pattullo item): "I think we should make pages for the auntsand uncles ... so that we have the full picture here and can add research as we go," with theanecdotes and the obituaries on them. So each generation of Ruth (Short) Ellingwood's line now haspages for its brothers and sisters, not only names in their parents' notes:- **John G. Short's**: Jane (`jane-short-1836`), Richard (`richard-short-1840`), Joseph William(`joseph-short-1842`), Mary Blair (`mary-short-1844`) and Isabella, Mrs. James Hay(`isabella-short-1848`).- **Mary Pattullo's**: Alexander (`alexander-pattullo-1835`), Thomas Robson (`thomas-pattullo-1837`),Jane (`jane-pattullo-1839`), William (`william-pattullo-1841`), Margaret (`margaret-pattullo-1842`),Isabella (`isabella-pattullo-1843`), George Robson (`george-pattullo-1845`), Lucinda(`lucinda-pattullo-1846`) and Andrew (`andrew-pattullo-1850`). Duff Pattullo, the writer GeorgePattullo, Andrew and Thomas now come down `via` these pages in Notable connections.- **Mary Jeffrey's**: Andrew (`andrew-jeffrey-1800`), Isabella (`isabella-jeffrey-1801`), Jean(`jean-jeffrey-1803`), Catharine (`catharine-jeffrey-1806`) and, linked as possible, William(`william-jeffrey-1802`).- **Jane Robson's**: Margaret (`margaret-robson-1796`), James (`james-robson-1800`) and Euphemia(`euphemia-robson-1803`).- **Halkett Pattullo's**: James (`james-pattullo-1807`), Jane (`jane-pattullo-1812`), Margaret(`margaret-pattullo-1813`) and Thomas (`thomas-pattullo-1817`).Their own children stay as names in the notes, as before. New sources for the pages: AndrewJeffrey's obituary (`newspaper-cobourg-sentinel-1863-08-01-jeffrey`), the Trent University Archiveson his firm (`other-trent-archives-a-jeffrey-son`), Cochrane's sketch of Andrew Pattullo(`book-cochrane-1892-canadian-album`), the Legislative Assembly's record of him(`other-ola-andrew-pattullo`) and the Oxford County Archives on the *Sentinel-Review*(`article-oxford-archives-sentinel-review`).## 9 October 2026: who Maud Holbrook wasJordan ruled (`to-decide.md`, the item now removed): "this Maude Holbrook was Maude Elizabeth NoelMorilon, later Wallace." The case is set out in `threads/richard-holbrook-second-family.md` ("WhoMaud was"). In short: the Pollock death records name Richard's survivors as "Maude Holbrook andDonald and Douglas" (Sept 1923); Hiram M. Wallace of the Pollock neighbourhood married "MaudeNoel" in 1923 (his 1935 state census card); in 1930 Hiram's wife Maud, born in Illinois to Englishparents, had a stepson Donald, born in Washington, and Douglas, born in Montana; and in 1940 DonaldJohn Morilon, born at Seattle on 19 July 1911, named his mother as "Mrs. Maude Elizabeth Wallace,Pollock." The *Bismarck Tribune*'s "Donald, age 5" (he was 12) is set down as a reporter's error.- **Maud** is now `maud-noel-1888` (was `maud-holbrook-fl1923`): Maud Elizabeth Noel (1888-1986),daughter of Samuel Hall Noel (`samuel-noel-1861`) and Elizabeth N. Todd (`elizabeth-todd-1868`);married John R. Morilon (`john-morilon-1882`) in 1910 and Hiram M. Wallace (`hiram-wallace-1895`)in 1923.- **The boys were Maud's sons by John R. Morilon, and Richard's stepsons**, not his sons: DonaldJohn Morilon, born John Noel Morilon at Seattle in 1911 (`donald-morilon-1911`, was`donald-holbrook-1918`), and Douglas Noel Morilon, born at Helena in 1916(`douglas-morilon-1916`, was `douglas-holbrook-1916`).- **Richard and Maud lived as husband and wife**, but no marriage has been found and both werestill married to others; Jordan: "It's also pretty unlikely that Richard and Maude ever legallymarried. Why would they need to anyways?"## 9 October 2026: Jessie's 1920 household was in SeattleJordan's copy of the census sheet (the project file `Mariah-Emma-Dunlap-Bruner-Census-1920.pdf`)is headed Washington, **King** County, Seattle City, Precinct 94, enumerated 5 Jan 1920: Jessie, heading her own household on Mercer Street in a house she owned, with her sons, her mother EmmaDunlap, a boarder and two nephews. The research notes' "Grays Harbor County" (source S37 in`collins-reed/meredith_collins_research.md`, and the master trees) was a slip. The source is now`census-1920-seattle-jessie-holbrook` (was `census-1920-grays-harbor-jessie-holbrook`), and Jessie's,Phil's and Emma's pages say Seattle.## 8 October 2026: researched generations become pagesJordan: "let's please use it to our advantage to make as many detailed people pages in our archive"as the research supports. The generations researched for Notable connections and held as questions(`to-decide.md`: the Woodbury, Rand, Deyo and Rowlandson generations on the Ellingwood side; theMarvin, Mather and Brewster generations on the Hatten side, items 24 and 27) are brought in as pageswherever the research rates them **probable or better**. A single possible step does not stop awell-documented family above it from having pages: the step is linked and labelled `possible` where ithappens (Benjamin Underhill to David Underhill; Jonathan Fairchild of East Jewett to the NorwalkFairchilds), and the pages and connections above it say they rest on it. Where a link is contradictedby evidence rather than merely unproven, it stays a name. This does not settle the held connections: the Browne-Chapin kin wait on Henrietta's parentage(item 22) and the Soule kin on Sybil Sawdy's mother (item 29).## 8 October 2026: Walter Allee, not WilliamJordan agreed (`to-decide.md`, item 28): the Ancestry tree's "William Buford Allee" was the wrong man.- **Sybil Sawdy's husband was Walter Allee** (c. 1796-1866) of Jefferson and Lenox, AshtabulaCounty, Ohio (*Memorial to the Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve*, 1896; the 1850 and 1860 Lenoxcensus index). His page is now `walter-allee-1796` (was `william-allee-1797`). William Buford Allee(1797-1874) of Barren County, Kentucky, and Moniteau County, Missouri, his parents Rev. David Alleeand Charity Delila Bybee, and his Missouri family are **Unrelated** and left out.- **Emery Delos Allee (1855-1951) was Albert Allee's son**, not Walter's. His page is now`emery-allee-1855` (was `emery-allee-1840`); the tree's 1840 Ohio birth is dropped.## 8 October 2026: weighing Cudge's memoirJordan's ruling: treat the memoir as what it is, a man in his seventies writing down his life in1968-70. He is likely to be right about his own life but may misremember. **Where a harder recordgives a date (a certificate, a register, a contemporary newspaper report), go with the record; wherethe other accounts are no harder than the memoir (obituaries and family summaries written later), gowith the memoir.**- **Dick became president of the company in 1960.** The memoir (scan 174, p. J3) describes thehandover: "In 1960, Dick and Ruth and I decided that he was ready to take over as president of thecompany," and Cudge called the employees together and went part-time. The other dates are latersummaries: Cudge's obituary (*Spokane Chronicle*, 6 Mar 1985, in the memoir's back papers) has himpresident "until 1964, when he was named chairman of the board," and Dick's obituary (2019) has"president ... from 1963." The 1964 step may be a formal change of title; the pages give 1960 andmention the others.- **The 1923 family agreement** (scan 196, at the back of the memoir) is quoted on Jennie's andWink's pages like the rest of the memoir, though it is not Cudge's own telling.## 8 October 2026: the recent generations, by family knowledge- **Links the family knows first-hand are proven.** Jordan: "the link between me and my parents isobviously proven" (he has seen his birth certificate). On the same common sense, the links ofthe generations the family knew are raised from the Ancestry tree's `probable` to `proven`:Jordan to John and Lynn; John to his mother Frances; Lynn to her mother Patricia, and Eric andJennifer to theirs; John and Lynn, Jerome and Patricia, Jack Hatten and Margaret Kuchenmeisteras couples; Patricia to Jack and Margaret; Margaret to Joseph Kuchenmeister and Theresa Panian;Frances to Richard Clifford Holbrook and Lucille McMillan (also in the 1940 and 1950 censuses),and Richard Clifford to Richard Jr. and Jessie (1910 and 1920). Joseph and Theresa's marriage(1899) and Henry Tisdell and Elizabeth Connelly's (1860) rest on their records; William Bell andAdeline Fairchild were both proven parents of Lucy Bell.- **Richard Everett Ellingwood Jr. died at Wickenburg, Arizona,** where he lived (Jordan: he diedin Arizona, and it was recent). FamilySearch's Glendale is not followed.- Smaller fixes made with these, from writing the summaries: Sarah Allee born at Chicago, Cook(not "Cork"); Joseph Cumins died at Grand Detour, Ogle (not "Olge"); Marjeta Sneler's "Stari Trg,Slovenj Gradec" taken as Stari trg ob Kolpi near Črnomelj, where her husband and son died; JamesReed's 1840 Morgan County household probable, not proven, as his notes say; Jurji Panian'smarriage entered once, not twice. Other disagreements the summaries found (old links the notesstate more firmly than the data) wait for the research; the summaries keep the data's hedges.## 7 October 2026: Richard B. Holbrook Jr.'s death- **Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr. died at Bismarck, North Dakota, on 22 Sept 1923.**Settled by a record Jordan found: his North Dakota certificate of death(`death-certificate-richard-holbrook-1923`). The Richard Holbrook of Pollock, S. Dak., farmer,51, was born "Sept 16" in Washington, his father born in Maine and his mother's maiden name"Phillips," born in Maine; the informant was "Mrs Maud Holbrook, Pollock S. Dakota." His ownbirthday and his mother's name given as "Phillips," as he gave it himself on his 1900 marriagereturn ("Hattie Phillips"), identify him; Jordan: "it definitely is him." His sister Mollie'stypescript had the day and the state. **This supersedes the 2 Oct entry on his death.**- **He had a second family**: his wife Maud and sons Douglas (b. c. 1916) and Donald(b. c. 1918), at Pollock, South Dakota. No marriage record, and no divorce from Jessie, has beenfound; Jessie's "widow" of Nov 1922 is unexplained. Followed as a research thread(`threads/richard-holbrook-second-family.md`).- The death certificate's "length of residence" of 2 days is his time in Bismarck, the city wherehe died, not at Pollock.## 6 October 2026: labels raised where the records name the parentJordan agreed that links the records now support should say so (`to-decide.md`, colonial treeitem 4).- **Documented, proven** (a will, estate agreement, gravestone or colony record states it):Rebecca Delano's father (the 1682 agreement on Philip Delano's estate); Hannah and Mary Pontus'sfather (William Pontus's will, 1650); Abigail Pierce's father (Michael Pierce's will, "mydaughter, Abigail Holbrook"); Mary (Bassett) Mulford's death (her gravestone, MD 13:198);Capt. Michael Pierce's death (Rev. Noah Newman's letter of 27 Mar 1676, printed by Deane); andThomas Prence's marriage to Mary Collier, 1 Apr 1635 (PCR 1).- **Documented, still probable** (the birth record names the parent by first name, and who sheor he was rests on the parent's marriage): Joshua Riggs's and Thomas Riggs Jr.'s mothers, JamesStanwood's mother, John Stanwood's father and mother, Abigail Allen's father (Gloucester andSalisbury VR), and Mary Millett's mother (the Dorchester record as printed in NEHGR 5).## 6 October 2026: the Low master research- **The Low master research file** (`research/low/Low_Master_Research.md`, first edition, 6 Oct2026) is the current research for the Low male line, from Thomas Low of Chebacco to HarrietPhillips Low, and overrides `Low_Line_Research.md` and Mollie's typescript where they differ.`Low_Line_Research.md` stays the full treatment of the wives' lines (Boreman, Lamb, Wise,Tompson, Varney, Proctor, Cogswell, Lord, Fuller, Emerson; Thompson, Foster, Kneeland and therest), which the new file only summarizes. Jordan asked for the archive to be updated from it.- **Settled by records it found** (no ruling needed):- **Harriet's birth: 12 June 1834**, not 1839. The Deer Isle town record, the 1850 census (16),the 1870 (36) and 1900 ("June 1834") censuses and her 1918 death certificate agree.- **The four links from Harriet up to Nathan Low of Boxford are proven:** Harriet's birthrecord, the 1850 census, the 1887 power of attorney and her death certificate (father "Capt.Lowe"); Capt. Nathan's birth record (24 Mar 1805), his 1838 deed as "Nathan Low Jun." and his1859 letters of administration on his father's estate; Nathan of Boxford's will of 1803 ("myson Nathan Low"), with the Deer Isle family Bible, the East Boxford baptisms and the 1850 census.- **The man who died on 17 Sept 1874 was Capt. Nathan**: his widow's petition in the HancockCounty probate says so. Who "B. F. Law," the *Paragon*'s master in the Portland paper, wasstays an open question on his page.- **Capt. Nathan married Hannah Read Tyler on 16 Sept 1832** (Maine vital records index), notMollie's 4 Oct 1832.- **Thomas Low the immigrant > Deacon Thomas is proven**: the 1677 will gives "my Sonne ThomasLow" thirty pounds (*Probate Records of Essex County* 3:175-177). The will was written 20 Aprand signed 30 Apr 1677, which settles the two dates in the abstracts.- **Page IDs renamed** to the birth years now known: `nathan-low-1804` is `nathan-low-1805`,`rebecca-thompson-d1836` is `rebecca-thompson-1772`, and `daniel-low-fl1874` is`daniel-low-1836` (Capt. Daniel Webster Low).## 5 October 2026 (late night): the Malmö family ruled out- **The Pålsson family of Malmö is not Anna Mary Paulson's.** Their daughter Anna Mathilda Pålsson(b. 28 Mar 1874, S:t Petri) married the lithographer Karl Axel Löfström in Malmö on 14 June 1902and was there in 1909, while our Anna had married in Nebraska in 1896; her mother and brothers(except Johan Alfred, John A. Paulson of New York) stayed in Malmö. **This supersedes the threeentries below on the Pålsson family and Kersti Andersdotter's parents.** Anna's birth is back toDecember 1871, Sweden (`anna-paulson-1871`); her parents are pages for what her records say andno more (`nils-paulson-fl1896`, `christine-anderson-fl1896`); the fifteen Malmö, Oxie and Svedalapages are removed. Their sources and two Gallery images stay, labelled as unrelated.- **The Riseberga ancestry stays out** (Jordan): it was an Ancestry hint, as unsupported as Malmö.- **The case is written up** in `research/paulson/anna-paulson-swedish-origins.md`: what is known, both red herrings, the searches done, and where to look next (Otoe County, Nebraska, first).## 5 October 2026 (night)- **The Pålsson family confirmed further** by Jordan's finds: the 1880 census (Malmö S:t Petri, withAnna Matilda), the Malmö family census of 1887-1897 (widow Kjersti Pålsson and the children), andJohan Alfred as **John A. Paulson** of New York (married Brooklyn 1903, died Manhattan 1924), whoserecords name his parents Nils Paulson and Kerstin Anderson, as Anna's do. The children's birthplacein the 1886 roll is "Förs." (this parish), not Fosie: all were born in Malmö S:t Petri.- **Kersti Andersdotter's parents** are Anders Jönsson (b. 1805) and Karna Persdotter (b. 1812) ofHyltarp, Svedala (Svedala AI:11, p. 314, as abstracted on FamilySearch; her birth date 20 Sep 1844matches the Malmö rolls). The tree's Riseberga ancestry for her (Anders Nilsson, KatarinaJohansdotter and ten more back to Nils Larsson Björk) belongs to another Kristina, b. 1846, and isremoved with its nine Swedish sources; the GEDCOM keeps it.- **Nils Pålsson's parents** are Pål Pehrsson and Boel Andersdotter of Oxie (baptism index, born 9 Jul,christened 10 Jul 1842; the Malmö roll's "2/7" is clearly written, so one of the two dates is acopying error). Probable: the only Oxie Nils of 1842 with a father Pål.## 5 October 2026 (evening)- **Anna Mary Paulson's Swedish family, found.** Jordan found the Malmö household examination rollof 1886-1890 (`household-exam-malmo-1886-palsson`): Nils Pålson, gardener, b. Oxie 2 Jul 1842,d. 8 Jan 1886; Kersti Anderson, b. Svedala 20 Sep 1844; married 18 Oct 1869; children born at"Förs." (S:t Petri; first misread as Fosie): Johan Alfred 1870, Karl Peter 1872, Anna Matilda 28 Mar 1874, Bernhard Ulrik 1878, AxelViktor 1881, Pål Josef 1883; widow and children to S:t Pauli, Malmö, Nov 1886. Accepted as**probable** for Anna's family (parents' names, "Anna M.", the 1874 baptism, and her sons Bernard,Joseph and Paul), against her American birth year of 1871. Nils and Kersti's pages take thesefacts at probable. **Later the same evening Jordan accepted the household as hers:** her birthis now 28 Mar 1874 at Malmö S:t Petri (the American "Dec 1871" very probably misremembered), the IDs are`anna-paulson-1871`, `nils-paulson-1842` and `christine-anderson-1844`, and her five brothers havepages. Two 1880/1890 census candidates were ruled out: a Nils Pålsson b. 1842 at Barsebäck (wifeBoel Persdotter) and a widowed Kerstin Andersdotter b. 1844 at Lilla Slågarp, in the Västra Alstadpoorhouse in 1890. Her birth date stays December 1871 until the 1890 census or the 1891 emigrationconfirms the family; Ven is now unlikely, and the tree's Riseberga parents for Christine doubtful.## 5 October 2026 (later)- **Jerome Dwyer's "franchise."** Jordan withdraws the family memory of Jerome starting his ownfranchise of a San Francisco printing company (`Dwyer_Master_Research.md`, section 1). Theaccount now used: Edwin founded the Edwin C. Dwyer Company at Seattle in 1935; Jerome, whoworked in it under him, took it over after his death in 1969; Jerome passed it to his son Ericafter 2000 (as corrected below).- **Cornelius Dwyer's funeral record** (Gantner, Felder, Kenny, San Francisco, 1941) names hisparents John Dwyer and Mary Ryan, both born in Ireland, and gives his birthplace as "JacksonHill, New York" (not yet identified; Black Brook and Troy stay in play). His death notice namesHenry and Agnes among his children, so the tree's "Cris S. Thyer" and his Thyer children are amisreading of C. S. Dwyer, not another Martha: the research file's "another Martha merged withher" is withdrawn.- **The business, corrected the same day.** Jordan's fuller account: Jerome worked in the companyunder his father and took it over soon after Edwin's death in 1969; he passed it to his son Ericsometime after 2000. ("After 2000" is when Eric took over, not Jerome.) Winifred's "retiredowner" (2003 obituary) suggests she kept a share; how ownership passed is open.- **Winifred Dwyer's age at death** is 101 (1 Nov 1901 - 30 May 2003), as her records say.- **Anna Mary Paulson's birthplace** is "Sweden" until a record says more. "Landskrona, Isle ofVen" in Jordan's Ancestry tree has no record behind it (the records cited give only "Sweden"),and the Dwyer research file found no home parish. The 2026-10-04 import report and earlierpages repeated the tree's Ven as fact; that is withdrawn. At Jordan's wish Ven stays on herpage as **possible** (it fits Landskrona, and someone may have had a reason to enter it), withthe Blaeu map in the Gallery.- **Cornelius Dwyer's father** is John Dwyer, husband of Mary Ryan (Black Brook 1860-1870, Cohoes1875, Birch Cooley 1880, Bandon 1885), as before; his 1941 funeral record names the same parents. The "John Frederick Dwyer" of Kilkenny and Faribault on Ancestry and FamilySearch is the mergedRice County man, and stays disproven for this family.## 5 October 2026- **The Dwyer and McMillan-Frost master research files** (`research/dwyer/`, `research/mcmillan/`)are the current research for those lines and override Jordan's Ancestry tree where they differ.- **John Dwyer, father of Cornelius, is not "John Frederick Dwyer" of Gowran.** Jordan's tree andFamilySearch had merged him with John Dwyer of Rice County, husband of Mary Shanahan (d. 1895,Faribault), and given him the Gowran baptism of 1816 and parents Martin Dwyer and Mary Walsh, whichno record ties to him. Removed from the archive: Martin Dwyer, Mary Walsh, her parents Richard Walshand Mary Dowling, the Gowran brothers Thomas, Patrick and Edmund, and nine children who were neverin John and Mary Ryan's household (Timothy 1847, George 1856, James 1857, Michael 1857, Dan 1859,Thomas 1859, Joseph 1861, Edward 1863, John 1842). John and Mary's children are those of the 1860-1880censuses: Mary Ellen, William, Mary Ann, Margaret, Kate, John J. and Cornelius.- **George "Tisdell" (b. c. 1861)** in Henry Tisdell's 1870 household was probably his orphanednephew George Chisholm; removed as Henry's son.- **Sylvia Pauline Paulson** is recorded as **Anna Mary Paulson**, the name on her marriage and deathrecords ("Sylvia Pauline" kept as an alternative name). Page IDs renamed to match: anna-paulson-1871,james-flynn-1846, anna-owens-1845, margaret-dwyer-1856.## 4 October 2026- **Israel Ellingwood (1714) is the son of Ralph III (1694-1728/9) and Sarah Woodbury. The caseis closed.** Ralph II's will of 1741 names "my Two Grandsons Israel Elinwood & Ralph Elinwood"and "the Children of my Son Ralph Elinwood Decd"; the Beverly register's family of Ralph andSarah Ellingwood lists Israel second; the 1743 division of Ralph III's estate gives Israel theeldest son's double share. Leonard Ellinwood's version (1963: Israel a son of Ralph II by athird wife, Sarah Woodbury) is **disproven**, not kept as an alternative reading; it stays onIsrael's page only as a disproven claim, with the reason. Jordan asked for one answer, not two(October 2026). (`research/ellingwood/Ellingwood_Master_Research.md`)- **The Ellingwood master files** (`Ellingwood_Master_Family_Tree.md`,`Ellingwood_Master_Research.md`) are the current research for the line from Ralph I to Dick, and override Jordan's Ancestry tree where they differ. Where Cudge's memoir is the betterwitness (Dick's birth on 15 November, his sisters' birth dates), the memoir stands.- **Dick Ellingwood's page is public.** He died in 2019 (Jordan's tree), so it is no longer aliving person's page.- **The deeper generations of the GEDCOM stay out** (beyond the 4th-great-grandparents) untiltheir sources are in. Jordan added them from Ancestry hints without attaching sources; he willlook up specific records where asked (`research/gedcom/ancestry-lookups.md`).- **Dick and Frances's wedding day** stays open (19 or 26 March 1955).## 2 October 2026 (later)Jordan reviewed the main points in `to-decide.md`:- **Sally Ginn's father, Mercy (Nye?) Ellis, Mary (Foster) Thompson's father, andHarriet Lowe's birth year:** unknown. They stay as recorded and are research tasks, not decisions.- **Elizabeth Stream as mother of John Holbrook (c. 1650):** not accepted yet. Loweredto possible until the source behind Mollie's line is found. (6 Oct: "Mollie's line" here was aslip in the write-up. Mollie's typescript does not name Elizabeth Stream; the link comes from theHolbrook master tree, which places John among her children by his birth date. The ruling stands:possible until a record names his mother.)- **James Reed's death:** still open. Jordan's Appanoose County reasoning turned out tobe about Jesse Collins and is recorded on Jesse's page.## 2 October 2026- **Death of Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr.** The death at Bismarck, NorthDakota, on 23 Sep 1923 is another Richard Holbrook's and is not used. The Collins-Reedmaster tree, `meredith_collins_research.md` and the FamilySearch tree still carry it.His death is recorded as between 1919 and November 1922, place unknown: alive in the1919 Seattle directory, absent from the 1920 one and from Jessie's January 1920household (where she is married), and Jessie is called a widow in November 1922. Nodeath record found in Washington, Alaska or California. Jordan suspects he died ordisappeared in Alaska; that is a guess, not a finding. (Superseded 7 Oct 2026: the deathcertificate shows the Bismarck death was his.)
