Born near Pollock, South Dakota, in 1895, the son of Frank Wallace and Mary Clover. He finished high school and served in the World War (Co. D, 24th Regt. [?], by his 1935 census card). In 1920 he married Velma M. Young at Superior, Montana, and they had two children at Pollock in 1921 and 1922, but by 1923 that marriage was over. In 1923 he married Maud (Noel), who that September had been left a widow at Pollock by Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr., and he raised her sons Donald and Douglas Morilon with two sons of their own, born in 1927 and 1932. In 1930 he was farming in Sioux County, North Dakota; from 1935 near Pollock and LaGrace; in 1950 he was managing a sawmill in Corson County, the "family sawmill" Douglas remembered. He was a Presbyterian, as the Pollock church where Richard's funeral was held. He died in 1960 and was buried at Pollock.

How he and Maud came to marry so soon after Richard's death is not known; they were neighbours in a small place and, it seems, of the same church.
