Open questions

  • His English origins. Nothing connects him to any English family (Banks; Ellinwood 1963, p. 9 (record); the College of Arms search of 1953, record). Online trees, the Ancestry tree among them, give him a father Timothy Ellwood of Great Gransden, Huntingdonshire, and a line behind that; nothing supports it, and it is not used here.
