A compiled town history. Read in the archive.org full text (https://archive.org/details/historyofbeverly00ston_0/page/28/mode/1up).
Cited for King Philip's War (research/king-philips-war/):
- Stone's list of Beverly men "in the expedition against the Indians at fort Narragansett in 1675 ... commanded by Capt. Joseph Gardner," with "Ralph Ellingwood" and "John Ellingwood" (pp. 28-29). The list is Gardner's Beverly muster (Mass. Archives 68:93, printed in Bodge p. 167), on which neither Ellinwood appears, followed by the fourteen Beverly grantees of the 1730s in the grant list's own order. It shows that both brothers were counted as soldiers of the war, not that either was in Gardner's company.
- "In a company stationed at Wells ... under the command of Capt. Frost, John Ellingwood, Thomas Parlor and Samuel Collins" (p. 174), drawn from John Ellinwood's petition of 1700/1 (The Acts and Resolves, Public and Private, of the Province of the Massachusetts Bay, vol. 7 (Boston, 1892)), not from a separate roll.
