Notes
Great-grandfather of Jane Maria (Deyoe) Adams, and the Deyo who took the family from the Huguenot settlements of Ulster County to Rensselaer County. A grandson of Christian Deyo of New Paltz, he was baptized at Kingston in 1739, married Charity Maria Cramer, and settled at Pittstown, where two “Peter DeYoe” households appear in the 1790 census. Hasbrouck calls him a “Member of 4th Dutchess Militia,” and LeFevre notes that “In the Land Bounty Rights in the Fourth Dutchess County Regiment appears the names of Jacob Deyo and Peter Deyo, Jr.”; possible Revolutionary service, not proven, and he is not in the DAR records checked. His elder brother Jacobus (bp. 1732) is a DAR and SAR patriot of the 8th Albany County Militia.
His will, dated 4 Apr 1812 and proved 23 Apr 1812, names his wife “Gertrude” and nine children: James, John, Zachariah, Jacob, Peter, Jane widow of Thomas Ismond, Sarah wife of Roelof Rip, Polly wife of David Myer, and Catherine wife of Joseph Ismond; to his youngest son Peter he left “my farm I purchased from John Deyoe & now occupied by Roelof Rip” (source). He and Charity are buried in the family burying ground at Pittstown (source).
