Notes

Of Norwalk, Connecticut, son of John Raymond and Mary Betts and grandson of Richard Raymond the Salem mariner. His grandfather’s deed of 1676 gave “all his lands in Norwalk ‘unto those children which my son John Raymond allready have or may have, by Mary Raymond his present wife’” (source), and the inventory of his father’s estate in January 1695 set out “land to children as per deed of gift from Richard Raymond” (source).

He married Judith, “dau. of Ephraim Palmer, of Greenwich,” on 1 April 1696 (source). His will, dated 23 October 1738, the day before he died, and proved 5 May 1739, “mentions, ‘wife, Judith; sons, Samuel, Joshua, Ephraim and Simeon; grandson, Samuel Brown’”; the inventory came to £1020 5s 8d. He was buried in Pine Island Cemetery at Norwalk (source). Children: Samuel, born 7 May 1697; John, 12 February 1699; Ephraim, 9 September 1701; Joshua, about 1702; Mary, about 1705, who married John Brown on 6 May 1729; and Simeon, born 1711.

The family’s descent from him rests on the identification of Jonathan Fairchild of East Jewett with his great-grandson Jonathan, born at Norwalk in 1744, which is only possible (see Jonathan Fairchild).
