A typescript-style compiled genealogy of Richard Raymond's descendants, correcting the 1886 Genealogies of the Raymond Families. It transcribes Norwalk and Saybrook land records and cites Fairfield probate, Jacobus's Families of Old Fairfield and Norwalk gravestones. Read in the archive.org full text for Notable connections of Frances Fairchild Holbrook: the Fairchild branch and the families that married in (October 2026).

  • Richard Raymond: "He and his wife Judith . . . were members of the First Church, Salem, before 1636." He "owned the house lot where he lived from at least 1649 to 1652. This extended between what is now Derby Street and Essex Street," opposite the present Derby Wharf (citing Perley, Salem in 1700). "Robert Spurrell of Salem, vs Richard Raymond of Beverly for witholding his share of mackerel & fish & also wages due to him upon a full voyage" (1668). It quotes his confession at New Haven in March 1659/60 (New Haven Town Records, pp. 442-443), and his suit "against Capt. John Penny of the ship 'Roe Buck' for seizing his vessel the 'Black Eagle'." "On 27 October 1662, Richard Raymond purchased a house and four acres of land at Norwalk" (Norwalk Land Records I, 41), probably for his son John. "Richard Raymond left no will, instead, he disposed of his property by means of Land Records." His deed to his son Daniel, dated at New London 2 Jan 1690 (Saybrook Land Records I, 90, 230), sold "all my housing ... in Saybrook" with "this proviso that no part of said lands or housing be sold or disposed of out of the family of Raymonds and also in case that I Richard Raymond should desire to live in Saybrook then my son Daniell shall be obliged to receive me into the house and provide suitably for my comfort I allowing him meete Recompense." In March 1692 "John Raymond of Norwalk, son and heir of Richard Raymond late of Saybrook ... deceased" released the Saybrook estate to "my Beloved Brother Daniell Raymond of Saybrook aforesaid mariner as also for his care of and charge about our Honored father in the time of his weakness" (Saybrook Land Records I, 231). "Richard Raymond died in Saybrook, Conn., before 12 March 1692"; "Judith Raymond died in Saybrook 1692" (citing Savage).
  • John Raymond: "married 10 December 1664 Mary Betts, daughter of Thomas Betts." In 1664 he "pledged all of his livestock and everything he owned . . . to Mistress Mary Williams of Boston" (Norwalk Land Records I, 94). "John Raymond, late of Norwalk, died 25 December 1694, Letters of administration, on his estate granted to Thomas Betts and John Raymond of Norwalk. Inventory taken 20 January 1695 by John Platt, John Gregory Sr. and Samuel Hayes: - land to children as per deed of gift from Richard Raymond mentioned John, age 31, Samuel, age about 22, Thomas, age about 19, Daniel, age 14 next August, Hannah, age 17 next August." "Mary (Betts) Raymond died at Norwalk 1695."
  • Samuel Raymond: "born about 1672, died 24 October 1738, age sixty-six"; "married 1 April 1696 Judith Palmer, daughter of Ephraim Palmer of Greenwich." "Will of Samuel Raymond, dated 23 October 1738, probated 5 May 1739 mentions, 'wife, Judith; sons, Samuel, Joshua, Ephraim and Simeon; grandson, Samuel Brown'" (Fairfield Probate VIII, 462-464). "Samuel Raymond died at Norwalk 24 October 1738, age sixty-six, buried Pine Island Cemetery." Children: Samuel 7 May 1697, John 12 Feb 1699, "Ephraim, born 9 September 1701," Joshua, Mary, Simeon.
  • Ephraim Raymond: "EPHRAIM RAYMOND (Samuel), married Mary Coley, baptized 5 December 1703" (citing Jacobus, Families of Old Fairfield I:155). "Ephraim Raymond died 1765 at Bedford, Westchester Co., N. Y. Mary (Coley) Raymond died December 1788, at Bedford" (no source given). Children: Thaddeus, Ephraim ("born about 1730"), Ebenezer, Samuel, "Ann, married — Fairchild," Mary, married Reade. His son Ephraim "died March 1827 Bedford, age ninety-six."
