What it says

A compiled genealogy from church records, wills and gravestones, read in the archive.org full text (an untidy OCR). Used for the descent of Jane Maria (Deyoe) Adams (research/ellingwood/Ellingwood_Wives_Families.md):

  • The Brooklyn Dutch Church baptism of Pierre Deyo’s son: “April 17, 1681, (child) Christien: Pieter Dujoo, Angeniet Nickie (parents); witnesses, Christen Dujoo, Gian Wibooe,” which the authors read as Christian Deyo and Jeanne Verbeau, and take as proof that Pierre was Christian’s son. “Pieter doe Jou and wife, Aget Niecel” had a daughter Mary baptized at Kingston, 20 Apr 1679.
  • “Grandpere Christian” and the founding of New Paltz: the Indian deed of 15 Sept 1677 (spelling him “de Yoo”) and Andros’s patent of 29 Sept 1677 (“Doyo”); his will of 1 Feb 1686/7.
  • B-3 Christian, bp. 17 Apr 1681; “He married 2-1-1702 MARY DeGRAFF (LeConte), dau. of Jean LeConte”; deacon 1733, elder 1765; children Peter 1702, Jacobus 1704, Moses 1706, Maria 1709, Angenieter 1712, Esther 1715, Margaret 1717.
  • C-5 Jacobus, “bp. 1-16-1704 … m. 10-28-1724 JANNETJE FREER. He was a foot soldier of Kingston in 1738. Tax list 1728 £1. Jannetje m. 2nd at Poughkeepsie 4-22-1754 RICHARD GRYN of Oswego”; children Antje 1726, Marytje 1728, Jacobus 1732, Zara 1734, Hester 1737, Pieter J. 1739, Michael.
  • D-13 “PETER J., bp. 10-21-1739, d. 4-6-1812 @ 73, m. 1765 CHARITY MARIA CRAMER, b. 1738, d. 9-24-1829 @ 83. Member of 4th Dutchess Militia.” His will, 4 Apr 1812, proved 23 Apr 1812 (given as Columbia Surrogate), names wife “Gertrude” and nine children: James, John, Zachariah, Jacob, Peter, Jane widow of Thomas Ismond, Sarah wife of Roelof Rip, Polly wife of David Myer, Catherine wife of Joseph Ismond. “The confusion in the name of his wife comes from the common difficulty that ‘Catherine’, ‘Charity’, and ‘Gertrude’, all had the same nickname ‘Gitty’. Peter was married only once.” (p. 13). A deed of 6 June 1756 from the heirs of Christian Deyo lists “Jacobus’ heirs: Peter J, Peter Kydney’s wife Esther, Isaac Lewis’ wife Mary, Peter VanderBogart’s wife Sara.”
  • E-40 “JAMES, b. 8-5-1764, d. 4-4-1841 @ 77, m. 3-3-1788 MARIA COLE, b. 1760, d. 9-18-1848 @ 88. Buried Stillwater Hart Cem.” His will, proved 2 June 1841, “names widow Maria of Stillwater; children: Peter J. of Wilton, Mynard of Stillwater, Thomas of Malta, Hannah wife of Peter D. Esmond of Saratoga Springs, Charity wife of Alexander Smith of Northumberland, Lotelia wife of Nicholas Torrey of Great Bend, Sally wife of Rufus Eldridge of Stillwater, Maria wife of Daniel B. Carpenter of Corinth” (p. 27).
  • F-86 “PETER J., b. 11-2-1787, d. 4-7-1857 @ 69-5-5 (Loudon Ch. Cem.) m. ELIZABETH ESMOND, b. 4-15-1788, d. 7-21-1841 @ 53-3-6, dau. of Deyoe Esmond & Hannah” (p. 54); the parentage given for Elizabeth cannot be right (Hannah Deyoe, wife of Peter D. Esmond, was born in 1790).
  • G-160 “JANE MARIA, b. 7-4-1809, d. 11-14-1843, m. 11-14-1833 LEWIS M. ADAMS,” with children Jane, Susan M., Leonard L., Laura Mathilda and Harriet M. Adams (p. 101). The death date is an error: she was alive in 1850-1892.
