Notes

Ralph of Frankfort. A Boston boy, “a minor above 14 years of age Grand Son of Israel Ellingwood”, put under a guardian in November 1785, and in 1790 an heir, with his brother Richard, of their brother Joseph (record). He followed Richard to the Penobscot and married Delilah Holdershaw, his brother’s wife’s sister, at Orrington in 1792 (record). In 1800 his census line at Frankfort gives “Boston” as the place he came from (record). He witnessed his brother’s will in 1802 and stood surety for the guardianship of the children, and in September 1814 served in Capt. Elisha Thayer’s company, “raised at Frankfort … Company in battle at Hampden.” “Mr. Ralph Ellingwood, of Frankfort, who died in April, at the age of 81, had lived with his wife on the same farm, for sixty-four years” (record). Four of their sons settled at Ellingwood’s Corner, Winterport: their children were Mary (Mrs. Staples), Joseph, Delilah (Mrs. Howe), William, Nathan, Richard, Irene (Mrs. Whitcomb) and John.
