Notes

Wife of Thomas Varney Jr. The Cogswell Genealogy (p. 28) lists her as “Abigail, [50] b. March 21, 1689; m. Thomas Varney,” a daughter of Capt. Adam Cogswell. Through Adam’s father William she was a great-granddaughter of John Cogswell, who survived the wreck of the Angel Gabriel in 1635. Mollie had Abigail Proctor as Thomas Jr.’s wife; Abigail Proctor was his mother.

Her mother’s brother was Rev. John Wise, the Chebacco pastor, who signed the 1692 petition for John Proctor (Salem Witchcraft Papers no. 107); Proctor was her husband’s uncle. Three of her younger brothers died on the same day, 5 Oct 1720 (Ipswich VR 2:527-528).
