What it shows:

  • The whole family in Chicago in 1900: John G. came in 1896, Mary and the children in 1897. The 1930 census has Ruth coming in 1895.
  • John G.’s birth, December 1847. That agrees with his age at marriage (31 in Nov 1879), against 22 Dec 1845 on his death certificate. His father was born in England, his mother in Scotland.
  • Mary’s age, 47, fits a birth in September 1852, as the Ancestry tree has it, rather than July. Her parents were both born in Scotland.
  • Five children born, four living: Jeffrey, Mary, Jeannie Beatrice and Ruth, and Arthur Wendell, who died young.
