Compiled genealogy. John Wheeler (I:353-354): “John Wheeler, ‘barber,’ from Salisbury, Eng., was of Hampton soon after the settlement of the town; rec’d land in Salisbury, Mass., in 1641; rem. to Newbury bef. 1650… He m. Anne [surname blank], who d. Aug. 15, 1662 [Nb]. He d. 1670; will March 28, 1668; [proved] Oct. 11, 1670.” His sons Adam, Edward and William were in England in 1668.
Henry Wheeler (I:354-355): son of John; married about 1659 Abigail Allen; admitted to the Salisbury church Aug. 26, 1694; died before 1696; Abigail “a wid., of Boston, 1696”. A daughter Ruth born July 15, 1671. Hoyt’s child list (I:355) agrees with Savage’s, giving Abigail as born March 7, 1660-1. A footnote (I:355): “A Henry Wheeler of S., ‘seaman,’ either (10) or (26) [Henry or his son Henry, b. 1659], deeded house and land in S. to Richard Hubbard, Dec., 1684.” Under Hubbard (I:356 n.): “Henry Wheeler of S. deeded house and land in S. to Richard Hubbard, 1684. Richard Hubbard of Boston deeded property in S. to Abigail Wheeler of Boston, wid. of Henry Wheeler” (the year cannot be read in the OCR). Hubbard married Abigail’s sister Martha Allen.
William Allen (I:31): of Salisbury, “house-carpenter”; received land at Salisbury in the “first division” and in 1640; on the 1650 list of “townsmen and commoners”; married (1) Ann Goodale, daughter of Richard, who “d. May, 1678”; (2) about 1684 Alice, widow of John Roper and of John Dickison, who died April 1, 1687; he died at Salisbury June 18, 1686; will, “in Boston,” Apr. 16, 1674, codicil Nov. 7, 1676, proved July 22, 1686. His twelve children were born 1639/40-1658/9, Abigail (Jan. 4, 1639/40, m. about 1659 Henry Wheeler) the eldest; Martha (1646) married Richard Hubbard.
Rowlandson (I:306-307), read in the Ellingwood kin research
(research/ellingwood/Ellingwood_Kin_Connections.md, October 2026): Thomas Rowlandson, of Ipswich in
1648, removed to Salisbury about 1652, died July 1682; will 7 July 1682 naming his wife Dorothy, a son
Joseph and four daughters. Hoyt makes him a son of Thomas Rowlandson the elder and a brother of Rev.
Joseph Rowlandson of Lancaster. Children include Thomas, b. 5 July 1656, “killed by Indians in the
attack upon his uncle’s house in Lancaster, Feb. 1675-6,” and Martha, b. 24 Aug 1666, a twin, “prob.
m. bef. 1706, Ralph Ellenwood.” A footnote: “In an agreement about the est. of Thomas Rowlandson,
signed April 8, 1706, by wid. Sarah Bond and Samuel Joy, of S., (in right as purchaser of J. Blodgett
and Mary his wife), ‘John Elenwood and Ralph Elenwood and Martha his wife,’ are given as children of
Thomas Rowlandson.”
