Notes

Wife of John Wheeler, married at Salisbury, Wiltshire, 11 Dec 1611 (Davis, The Ancestry of Annis Spear III:604-606, as reported by Seaver). Hoyt calls her only “Anne [surname blank]”; the surname Yeoman and the 1611 marriage come from Davis. Mollie Pfeiffer (pp. 174-181) made her “Ann Salisbury, sister of William,” of the Salusburys of Lleweni and kin to Mrs. Piozzi; there is no basis for it, and NEHGR 33:101, which Mollie cites, is a general query that does not mention Wheeler.

Mollie's typescript· 1 passage · 2 claims checked

What Mollie wrote about her in The Holbrook and Low Families, and her claims about her checked against the records.

  1. Mollie calls John Wheeler's wife Ann Salisbury, sister of William of Swansea, married years before the emigration since they had ten children by then; the records name her Agnes Yeoman, married in 1611.

Ann Salisbury married John Wheeler (1) a number of years before they came to New England, since they had ten children at the time of emigration.

Checked against the records

  • Disproven
John Wheeler's wife was Ann Salisbury, sister of William

She was Agnes Yeoman, married at Salisbury, Wiltshire, on 11 Dec 1611 (Davis, as reported by Randy Seaver). Hoyt's Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury calls her "Anne", surname blank, and has her death on 15 Aug 1662, not 5 Aug.

  • Disproven
Ann Salisbury came from the Salusburys of Lleweni, kin to Mrs. Piozzi

NEHGR 33:101, which Mollie cites, is a general query about Salisbury emigrants and does not mention Wheeler. John Wheeler's wife was Agnes Yeoman, married at Salisbury, Wiltshire, in 1611, so the Lleweni descent and the kinship with Mrs. Piozzi have no basis.
