Notes

Father of Sarah (Underhill) Frost: a Quaker farmer of the Purchase Meeting in Westchester County and then of Nine Partners, in Clinton, Dutchess County, the son of Benjamin Underhill and Hannah Townsend. He married Mercy, daughter of Zebulon Dickinson of North Castle; his brother John married her sister Deborah.

Their children, “as taken from the Friends’ Records of Purchase, N. Y.” (after 1752 the 1st month is January): Hannah, born the 3rd of the 2nd month 1755, who married a Frost; Joyce, 10th of the 7th month 1757 (d. 1773); Joel, 7th of the 1st month 1759; Sarah, 6th of the 4th month 1761, who married George Frost; Esther, 16th of the 8th month 1763, who married William Cornell Jr. in 1781 as “Esther Underhill, of Chappaqua, daughter of Thomas” (source); Phebe, 1st of the 2nd month 1768; Mary, 13th of the 5th month 1770, who married Stephen Halsted; Elizabeth, 3rd of the 2nd month 1773, who married a Titus; and Deborah, 27th of the 5th month 1774 (source, 2:138). In 1792 he bought land from Nehemiah and Ann Carpenter (Poughkeepsie Deeds 14:135).

His will. “Thomas Underhill of Nine Partners, in Clinton Township, N. Y., made his will 15, 10 mo., 1800, which was proven Dec. 4, 1801 … He mentions: Wife Mary, son Joel, daughter Deborah; Thomas Frost; son and daughter of daughter, Hannah Frost; daughters Sarah, Easter, Mary, Elizabeth,” with his son Joel and son-in-law Stephen Halsted as executors. His daughter Deborah’s will, proved the same day, names her “sisters, Sarah Frost, Esther Cornell, Mary Halsted and Elizabeth Titus” (source, 2:138-139). The two wills are the documentary proof that Sarah (Underhill) Frost was his daughter.

He is not the Thomas Underhill “of Phillipsburgh, Westchester county, son of Thomas,” who married Sarah Weeks at Purchase in 1761 (source).
