David Underhill
Probably the youngest child of Capt. John Underhill, the soldier of the Pequot War, and Elizabeth Feake, born in April 1672, months before his father died. Of Oyster Bay, Long Island, probably a blacksmith, he traded land there in the 1690s, gave land to his son Peter in 1700, and died in 1708. Possibly the father of Benjamin Underhill, and so a possible ancestor of Sarah (Underhill) Frost.

The 2nd month, before 1752, is April. "born 2nd month, 1672, as per the Friends' records of Flushing, L. I., which state no day" (Underhill Genealogy 2:74). No place is given; his parents were then living at Killingworth.

- Spouse
- Hannah
"my now wife Hannah," in his deed of gift of 1700 to his son Peter. The Underhill Genealogy calls her Hannah Forman, a theory of George W. Cocks "evolved" from "this slight clue" (a family note that Joseph Weekes's second wife was grandmother of the Rev. Peter Underhill): possible only. A first wife, mother of Peter, is "supposed" a daughter of Gideon and Elizabeth (Townsend) Wright, because of Peter's name; she is not named in any record.

Notes
The youngest child of Capt. John Underhill and Elizabeth Feake, born in April 1672, five months before his father died at Killingworth on Matinecock. He is a possible ancestor of Sarah (Underhill) Frost: the Underhill Genealogy makes him the father of her grandfather Benjamin Underhill, but on evidence its own compiler calls “indirect and fragmentary” (see Benjamin’s page).
What is known of him comes from the Oyster Bay town records, as abstracted in the Underhill Genealogy from George W. Cocks’s notes (source, 2:74-79). Cocks thought he was apprenticed to Abraham Alling, the blacksmith of Oyster Bay, and his son Peter “like his father David” was a blacksmith. In 1690 he sold “rights of land” to William Frost, confirming the sale in 1697, “now of age”; in 1693 he conveyed to “his uncle and nearest neighbor, John Feke, ‘all of my part and share in land formerly my father’s, being one-third interest’”; on 13 October 1694 Nicholas Wright’s sons John and Edmund conveyed to him land “formerly given by the town to Nicholas Wright and by him to his sons John and Edmond”; and he traded land at Cedar Swamp, Beaver Swamp, Hog Island and the head of Mill River with Henry Townsend, Samuel Birdsall, Samson Hawxhurst and others in 1694-1698. In 1700 he made a deed of gift: “to my son, Peter Underhill, I give a grant of fifty acres of land at the Head of Mill River, in Oyster Bay, &c., reserving the privilege to manure any part of the same during my life and the same liberty to my now wife Hannah, should she outlive me.”
That deed is the only record that names a child of his. Cocks wrote: “Our knowledge of names of David Underhill’s children is alike, indirect and fragmentary. The Deed of Gift before mentioned certainly fixes Peter as one of them and the appearance on the Oyster Bay records of the names of Benjamin and Samuel Underhill as property holders in the vicinity of Peter’s grant, and the certainty that Benjamin and Samuel were not the descendants of John places them as children of David” (source, 2:77-78). The book lists Peter (by the first wife), and Samuel, Benjamin and Daniel (by Hannah).
