Sarah Stockbridge
Wife of Joseph Woodworth of Scituate, Massachusetts, a shopkeeper and son of Walter Woodworth, whom she married in 1669, and mother of eight children born there, probably among them Joseph Woodworth. She was probably a daughter of John Stockbridge, who built the grist mill on the First Herring Brook, and his second wife, the widow Elizabeth Soan; one account makes her a daughter of his son Charles.

Deane lists "Sarah 1645, (wife of Joseph Woodworth 1669 ...)" among John Stockbridge's children by his second wife.

The day is the Woodworth Records'; Deane has the year only. Whether January 1669 is 1668/9 or 1669/70 is not stated.
Family
- Father
- John Stockbridge
Deane's Stockbridge sketch (p. 342) makes Joseph Woodworth's wife John Stockbridge's daughter Sarah, born 1645, and John's will of 1657 left "daughter Sarah 10£ at marriage, or at 21 years of age." The Woodworth Records (1898), and Deane's own Woodworth sketch (p. 392), call her "daughter of Charles Stockbridge, who kept the mill"; but Charles's daughter Sarah was born in 1665 and married Israel Turner (Deane, p. 343), and his first known child was born in 1660. So John is the better reading. The research file rated John possible before these points were checked.

Notes
Wife of Joseph Woodworth, son of Walter Woodworth of Scituate, whom she married in 1669 (6 January by the Woodworth Records). Deane adds “a shop-keeper” after her husband’s name (source). Her father John Stockbridge built the grist mill on the First Herring Brook and the Stockbridge house, which her half-brother Charles inherited; it was the main garrison when Scituate was attacked on 20 May 1676. That year the Plymouth court assigned land “to Charles Stockbridge, for the use of Benjamin Woodworth’s family,” Benjamin, her husband’s brother, having been killed in the war.
Her children, born at Scituate (Deane; the Woodworth Records): Joseph, 19 March 1670; Mary (Margaret in the Woodworth Records), 1673, who married Stephen Vinal Jr. in 1704; Benjamin, 1676; Sarah, 1678; Elizabeth, 1680; Eunice, 1682/3; Abigail, 1685, wife of Thomas Merritt; and Ruth, 1687/8, wife of Benjamin Sylvester Jr. (source).
