Notes

Daughter of Nathaniel Bassett of Yarmouth and sister of Mary (Bassett) Mulford: both are named in their father’s will of 1709/10 (record). She married John Nickerson of Harwich, a grandson of William Nickerson, the founder of Chatham; their children, born at Harwich from about 1707, were Reuben, Jeremiah, Jesse and Sarah. Widowed before 1722, she married John Rogers at Harwich in 1728 (record), and was “Widow Sarah Rogers” in 1744 (source).

Through her daughter Sarah she is an ancestor of the Ellingwoods; through her sister Mary, Nathaniel Bassett is an ancestor of the Holbrooks, so Dick Ellingwood and Frances Holbrook descend from the two sisters (research/ellingwood/Ellingwood_Cape_Cod.md).

Open questions

  • Her birth; a probate for John Nickerson (d. before 1722) or John Rogers (d. 1738/9) naming the children would make her daughter Sarah’s parentage firm.
