note
"April 18 day 1728 Then John Rogers and Sarah Nickerson both of harwich," married by Joseph Doane.

Probably a daughter of Nathaniel Bassett of Yarmouth, and so a sister of Mary (Bassett) Mulford: his will of 1709/10 names "Sarah Nickerson" among his six children, with Mary Mulford (record). She married John Nickerson of Harwich, a grandson of William Nickerson, the founder of Chatham; their children, born at Harwich from about 1707, were Reuben, Jeremiah, Jesse and Sarah. Widowed before 1722, she married John Rogers at Harwich in 1728 (record), and was "Widow Sarah Rogers" in 1744 (source).

Through her daughter Sarah she is an ancestor of the Ellingwoods; through her sister Mary, Nathaniel Bassett is an ancestor of the Holbrooks, so Dick Ellingwood and Frances Holbrook, it seems, descend from the two sisters (Cape Cod ancestry of Hope Holdershaw and Hannah Brown).

Open questions

  • Her birth; a probate for John Nickerson (d. before 1722) or John Rogers (d. 1738/9) naming the children would make her daughter Sarah's parentage firm.
