Notes
Grandfather of Sarah (Cole) Holdershaw. A son of Joseph Nickerson and Ruhamah Jones and grandson of William Nickerson, the founder of Chatham. He married Sarah, daughter of Nathaniel Bassett of Yarmouth, before 1709/10, and their children, all born at Harwich, were Reuben (about 1707), Jeremiah, Jesse and Sarah, who married Joseph Cole Jr. of Eastham in 1737. He died at Harwich before 1722; by 1726 his widow was living in East Harwich, and in 1728 she married John Rogers (source, record).
Open questions
- His probate (Barnstable), or John Rogers’s (d. 1738/9): a guardianship or division naming the Nickerson children would make his daughter Sarah’s parentage firm.
