Mary Sheldon
Probably a daughter of Joseph Sheldon of Suffield and Mary Whiting, and through her mother a great-granddaughter of John Pynchon of Springfield. She married Ebenezer Hitchcock in 1716 and bore him fourteen children, among them Rev. Gad Hitchcock and, probably, Anna (Hitchcock) Chapin. She died at Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1760.

Notes
Mother of Anna (Hitchcock) Chapin and of thirteen more children. The Hitchcock genealogy gives her descent in one sentence after another: “She was the daughter of Joseph Sheldon of Sheffield [Suffield], who was a representative to the general court in 1708 … The mother of Mary Sheldon was Mary, daughter of Capt. Joseph Whiting, treasurer of Connecticut for thirty-nine years … The wife of Joseph Whiting was Mary, daughter of the Hon. John Pynchon of Springfield” (source). Savage lists her among the children of Joseph Sheldon and Mary Whiting, born at Northampton before the family moved to Suffield, “Mary; Ary; whose dates are unkn.” (source). Her father died at Boston in 1708, when she was a child, and her mother married John Ashley of Westfield.
She married Ebenezer Hitchcock on 14 Feb 1716 and bore him fourteen children; part of her fortune came from the Pynchon estate. She died at Springfield on 8 Jan 1760, in her son Gad’s words “My Hond. Mother, Mary Hitchcock.”
The Chapin Book named Anna Chapin’s mother “Mary (Morgan)”; that was her widower’s second wife.

Open questions
- Her birth date. Savage gives none; she came after a brother born 13 June 1695 and before the move to Suffield, where a brother was born on 26 Dec 1700. WikiTree’s 26 Dec 1699 at Westfield is probably a confusion with that brother’s date.
