Notes
Marion Chapin’s father. Born at Windsor, Vermont, he married Hannah Converse at Randolph in 1808. They moved to Geauga County, Ohio, when their son Theron was fifteen, and later to Grand Detour, Ogle County, Illinois, where they both died (source). He was a son of Lt. Jerahmeel Cummings and Deborah Kendall; their nephew Amos Kendall, later Postmaster General, visited the family at Windsor in his Dartmouth years and climbed Mount Ascutney with two of the sons (source). Kith and Kin carries the line back to Isaac Cummings of Ipswich and Topsfield, but the step above his grandfather Leonard Cummins is not supported by the Cummings Memorial it cites (see Leonard Cummings).
