Born 6 Aug 1808, Northumberland, England; died 4 Oct 1858, Orono, aged 50. “Cenotaph here” (a link to his memorial on the Woodstock stone). Inscription: “Age: 50 years.” Photographs: the Woodstock family stone (Mardelle Monroe; gravestone-john-short-1858) and his own broken stone at Orono (gravestone-john-short-orono-1858). Spouse: Mary Jeffrey Short (1809-1883, m. 1836). Children: Jane (1836-1909), Richard (1841-1904), and the others below.
