Notes

Wife of Samuel Foster (b. 1676), goldsmith, then of Thomas Morrise and William Scorch. Her husband’s trust deed of 1699/1700 calls her “daughter of Joseph Brisco of Boston, baker” (Suffolk Deeds 21:150). In the 1722 sale of the Squantum land she acted as “wife and attorney to William Scorch, cooper,” joining her son Samuel Foster; by 2 Aug 1726 she was “Rebecca Scorch (widow)” (NEHGR 178:34-35).

Her great-grandfather William Briscoe, a Boston tailor, was a first cousin of Rev. John Wilson, pastor of Boston’s First Church, which makes her Wilson’s first cousin three times removed (NEHGR 178:7-8, following Bartlett, NEHGR 61).
