Notes
Wife of Joseph Briscoe (b. 1658), baker, of Boston. Her maiden name is not known. Joseph “married by 1679, Rebecca (___)” (NEHGR 178:32, citing Savage); their children, born at Boston from 1679 to 1700, are entered as children of “Joseph & Rebecca Brisco” (Boston RC 9), beginning with Rebecca, 16 Sept 1679, who married Samuel Foster.
On 19 Feb 1680/81 Joseph and “Rebecca, his wife” sold a house and shop on the east side of present-day Washington Street to James Lindall (Suffolk Deeds 12:19-20). She was living on 6 May 1724, when Joseph sold the land he had been given in 1683 in settlement of his grandmother Compton’s estate, with its dwelling house, “with the consent of Rebeckah his wife” (Suffolk Deeds 37:248-249; NEHGR 178:32-33).
