Notes

Daughter of Richard Blackmer and Nancy Ellis. An 1833 Plympton marriage record calls Nancy (Blackmer) Holmes “the daughter of Mr Richard Blackmer & Nancy his wife, whose maiden name was Ellis.” “Nancy Morey” in her mother’s will, 1860, which left her nothing, as it did Richard B. and Eliphalet Holbrook, because the other children “have chiefly borne the expense of my support.”

Mollie's typescript· 1 passage · 1 claim checked

What Mollie wrote about her in The Holbrook and Low Families, and her claims about her checked against the records.

  1. In the will Mollie copies, her mother left nothing to "Nancy Morey" or to Richard and Eliphalet, giving her estate to the children who had chiefly borne the cost of her support.

Checked against the records

  • Proven
Nancy Holbrook's will left nothing to Richard B., Eliphalet and Nancy Morey

Her will of 6 Sept 1860 in the Plymouth probate records reads almost word for word as Mollie copied it: no bequest to them, because she felt bound to the children "who have chiefly borne the expense of my support", not for want of affection. Nancy Morey was her daughter by her first husband, Richard Blackmer.
