Mary Cock

Also Mary Frost

Probably the daughter of James Cock and Hannah Feke, at whose wedding in 1698 the travelling Quaker minister Thomas Chalkley was a witness; through the Feakes she descended from Robert Feake and Elizabeth Fones. Born at Buckram (Locust Valley), Long Island, in 1722, she married Isaac Frost, was probably the mother of George Frost (1760), and died after 1777 at Clinton, Dutchess County, New York.

Notes

Daughter of James Cock and Hannah Feke, at whose wedding in 1698 the travelling Quaker minister Thomas Chalkley was a witness; of Matinecock’s “Ranters” he wrote, “I fought with beasts.” Through the Feakes she descended from Robert Feake and Elizabeth Fones, the widow of Henry Winthrop (source). She was the youngest of ten children, born when her mother was forty-six.

Her brother Josiah married Isaac Frost’s sister Rebecca, and her sister Martha married Isaac’s cousin Joseph Frost, son of Wright Frost (source, p. 17). She and Isaac were themselves cousins twice over: second cousins through Matthew Prior (her grandmother Elizabeth Prior and Isaac’s grandfather John Prior were his children), and second cousins once removed through Robert Feake and Elizabeth Fones. The painter Robert Feke was her first cousin, the son of her mother’s brother Robert.
