Notes

Mother of Mary (Cock) Frost: a daughter of John Feke of Killingworth and Elizabeth Prior, and granddaughter of Lieut. Robert Feake and Elizabeth Fones, the widow of Henry Winthrop. She married James Cock at Matinecock in December 1698, with Thomas Chalkley, the travelling Quaker minister, as a witness (source, p. 17). Her sister Mary married James’s brother Henry the next year, at their father’s house, with the Ranters in the meeting (p. 18).

She bore ten children between 1700 and 1722, the last, Mary, when she was forty-six, and lived another twenty-eight years at Buckram (Locust Valley). When she died in April 1750 the Westbury Monthly Meeting recorded her as an “innocent (pure) woman” (p. 17).

Her nephew, her brother Robert’s son, was Robert Feke (c. 1705-c. 1750), the portrait painter of Newport (source, p. 14), and so a first cousin of her daughter Mary.
