Norman's Wanless file lists her among his children, "b. 1797 d. 1831," married to Thomas Hatten in Bath County on 10 Feb 1813. Her son was named Ralph and her granddaughter Lucretia, after Ralph and Lucretia Wanless. Price's sketch does not name his daughters; his will (Pocahontas County, 1842) would prove it.

Notes

Wife of Thomas Hatten and mother of Ralph Hatten (1815). Her father, Ralph Wanless, was an English-born blacksmith of the Hills above Huntersville, in what is now Pocahontas County, West Virginia: he told the pension office in 1832 that he had served three times in the Revolution, once “as an ‘Indian spy’ at Clover Lick in Bath County”, and Price’s Historical Sketches of Pocahontas County (1901) remembers how “Ralph Wanless and his sons wrought at the anvil and caused the primitive forests to ring.” The tree’s death places for him and his wife, Lucretia Nichols (Chesterfield and Tazewell counties), should read Pocahontas County.
