License 27 Dec 1842. The certificate's date (the 27th of a month cut off, filed "17 February 1842") cannot follow the license, so a year is miswritten; JoEllen Reed's list gives 25 Mar 1842. The wedding date is unsettled.
Family
- Father
- James Reed
Named as a son in the Morgan County James Reed's will of 1836. That James is Mary Reed's father only under the Morgan reading, which the Reed addendum leans to.

Notes
His father’s will (signed 19 July 1836, recorded 6 January 1845) leaves him and a second son (John or James) the 103-acre home farm in the SW quarter of Section 17, T11N R1E. He bought 30 acres of the NW quarter of the same section from Abner Reed and his wife Catharine for $300 (Robbins’s abstract #52, Deed Book L, p. 139). The NW quarter was John Reed’s.
A newly married Elisha would fit the household of “Elijah” Reed on the 1840 Morgan County census (a man 24-36 and two women 24-36), and no Elijah Reed appears in the Morgan County marriages. He is enumerated twice in the 1850 census, with a Julia A. Hollingsworth, 15, in the household (county not stated in the notes). JoEllen Reed, who descends from the Morgan James, calls him Elisha John and repeats Naaman’s dates for him in her tree, which may merge Elisha with a brother John. Her line later moved to Mt. Auburn, Christian County, Illinois.
