Notes

Born at Seattle on 19 July 1911, eleven months after his parents’ marriage, and registered as John Noel Morilon, son of John Randolph Morilon, then a carpenter, and “Maud Doel,” his mother’s first child (birth-certificate-john-noel-morilon-1911). He went by Donald, and in the family by “Mick.” He and his brother Douglas were with their mother at Pollock, South Dakota, when Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr. died in Sept 1923. The Bismarck Tribune gave him as “age 5,” but he was 12. In 1930 he was a stepson, 18, in Hiram Wallace’s household in Sioux County, North Dakota. In Oct 1940 he registered for the draft at Portland, Oregon, aged 29, 5 ft 9, with blue eyes and brown hair, naming as the person who would always know his address “Mrs. Maude Elizabeth Wallace,” his mother, of Pollock (draft-wwii-donald-morilon-1940). He died in 1997, before his brother.

He was Richard Holbrook’s stepson, not his son: he was born to John and Maud Morilon within a year of their wedding, years before Maud is known to have met Richard. He was identified with the Donald of Pollock on 9 Oct 2026 (research/decisions.md; the research thread).
