Notes

Born in Kansas in 1882, the son of John Morilon of Maryland and Clara McClellan of Pennsylvania. A blacksmith of 28 when he married Maud Noel at Seattle on 12 Aug 1910; a carpenter at the birth of their first son, John Noel (Donald), in 1911; a sanitary inspector at the East Helena smelter, living at Helena, Montana, when Douglas was born in 1916; and a barber in Seattle in Sept 1918, when he gave “Maude Noel Morilon (wife)” as his nearest relative though they lived apart. On 5 May 1920, at Helena, he married Elizabeth M. Paulson as a “widower,” though Maud was alive and no divorce has been found. That marriage ended in divorce at Portland in Jan 1946, and that July he married Fletta Almena (Tracy) Knudson, giving his age as 59 when he was 64. By then he was living in Portland, where his son Douglas joined him in 1934, and was a patrolman. Kathy Jonas’s tree has his death at Salem, Oregon, in 1954 and keeps a photograph of him.

He was not Capt. Richard Blackmer Holbrook Jr. under another name. The two men registered for the draft at Seattle on the same day, 12 Sept 1918, before different boards and with different descriptions (draft-wwi-john-morilon-1918, draft-wwi-richard-holbrook-1918).
