Notes
“My Eldest Son Daniel” in his father’s will (1754), with a double share, and co-executor with his mother. Baptized at Truro on 15 Sept 1723 with his brother Samuel, as “sons of Danll Mayo of Eastham.” Administrator of his mother’s estate, 1760. “March 1. 1738/9 Daniel Mayo junr & Martha Holbrook both of Eastham ware Married in Eastham by Mr Isaiah Leues clark.” In 1763 a district road ran “between Dan’l and Sam’l Mayo’s dwellings and their orchard fence” (Freeman, History of Cape Cod).
His stone at Duck Creek: “Daniel, husband of Martha, died 14 July, 1800, aged 86 years, 14 days.”
Open questions
- Who was his wife Martha Holbrook, and how was she related to Elisha Holbrook? John Holbrook (1686)’s daughter Martha was born at Scituate on 11 Nov 1721, close to but not the same as the birth her gravestone implies; the Mayo research leaves it open.
