Notes
Ruling elder of the Truro church. He was one of the seven male members who formed the church when Rev. John Avery was ordained, 1 Nov 1711 (Truro church records, MD 9:55). On 30 Nov 1726 the church asked “whether it was not according to Gospell Rule to chuse Ruleing Elders, according to the Practice of the Presbiterian churches in Scotland.” On 11 Jan 1726/7 it chose “Mr Thos Mulford Mr Constant Freman and Mr John Snow … Presbiterian Ruleing Elders” (MD 9:175). Mulford and Freeman were ordained 24 Mar 1727/8; Snow “never served in the office but was discarded for suspected Adultery” (MD 9:243).
His will (1728, Barnstable Probate 8:331-332) names his daughters “Mary Mayo” and “Elizabeth Mayo,” the wives of Daniel and Jeremiah Mayo. In 1734 the Truro church baptized and admitted “Coffe negro servant to Elder Mulford Adult” (MD 10:150, 151): he held an enslaved man named Coffe.
