What it says

“THO: MILLET 30”, with his wife Marie, 29, and son Tho., 2. Ursula Greenaway, 32, came with them. The passengers “brought Certi. from the Minister of St Saviors Southwark”, a certificate of conformity; it does not make Millett a minister.

A second list for the same ship, dated “17 Aprilis 1635”, embarked “in y[e] Elizabeth W[m] STAGG M[aste]r p[er] Cert: from the Ministers & Justices of the Peace of their Conformitie to the Church of England” (Hotten p. 68): “Husb: JAMES BATE 53”, Alice 52, Lyddia 20, Marie 17, Margaret 12 and James 9; and “RACHELL BIGG”, “PATIENCE FOSTER 40” and “HOPESTILL FOSTER 14”. The ministers and justices vouched for the passengers; they did not sail. Rachel Bigg’s age is printed “6” [sic, for 60]: Savage had the customs entry checked against the original at Westminster and found the print exact, so the clerk omitted a digit (Pierce pp. 486-487).
