  • Amos (pp. 30-31): “b. April 9, 1693, at Preston, Conn. (P. T. R.), d. Feb. 27, 1788, at Stafford, Conn. (S. T. R.), m., 1719, Theodia, dau. of Experience and Abigail (Williams) Porter. She was born Aug. 15, 1699, at Hadley, Mass., and d. Dec. 16, 1760, at Stafford,” of smallpox (“In the night between the 15th and 16th of Dec. 1760, ye wife of Ensign Ames Wallbridge died of the small pox”). They deeded their Norwich land in 1729, were at Canterbury, and bought at Stafford in 1735; on 13 Oct 1737 the Connecticut Assembly confirmed “Mr. Amos Wallbridge to be Ensign of the co. or train band in the town of Stafford.” Theodia’s ancestry is given through Experience Porter, “son of Samuel and Hannah (Stanley) Porter, of Hadley,” and Abigail Williams, “b. Roxbury, Mass., July 12, 1674, d. Mansfield, Conn., April 20, 1765.”
  • Maj. Amos (pp. 43-45): “b. Dec. 15, 1727, at Norwich, Conn. (T. R.), bapt. the same month at Lisbon (C. R.), d. Oct. 24, 1793, at Stafford, Conn. He m. prior to 1751, Margaret [blank], who was b. 1727 and d. Aug. 13, 1794, at Stafford.” Service, after Heitman: “Capt. in the Lexington Alarm, April, 1775; Capt. 13th Conn. Infty., Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 1776; Capt. 7th Conn., Jan. 1, 1777; Major 2d Conn., May 27, 1777; retired Jan. 1, 1781.” The 2nd Connecticut “on Dec. 8 engaged in the sharp action of Whitemarsh … Wintered at Valley Forge, 1777-1778, and was present, July 28 following, at the Battle of Monmouth”; its light company was at the storming of Stony Point. He was an original member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati, subscribing its oath: “We the subscribers, officers of the American Army … do pledge to each other our Sacred Honor.” A great-granddaughter wrote in 1895: “I remember people used to come to my father’s when I was a child, to see the roll of Major Amos W.’s co. In 1876 that roll was given to the town of Stafford. I don’t know about the first wife, but the second was a Widow Walbridge, of Wales, Mass.” Stafford church records: “Oct. 24, 1793, Major Ames Wallbridge died, aged 65 years and 8 or 9 months”; “Aug. 13, 1794, Mrs. Margaret Wallbridge, relict of the late Major Wallbridge, died, aged 67 years and about 8 months.” Children: Charity 1751, Hannah (b. Oct. 11, 1752, m. Israel Converse), Elizabeth 1755, Porter 1760 (fife major of the 2nd Connecticut), Theodia 1768, William 1771.
  • Hannah (pp. 78-79): “b. Oct. 11, 1752, at Stafford, Conn. (T. R.), m. there June 27, 1771 (T. R.), Israel Converse.” Stafford church records: “June 18, 1769, Sarah Converse, wife of Mr. Israel Converse, d. aet. 24 years, and Jan. 24, 1773, d. an infant of Mr. Israel Converse and Hannah his wife, aged about 8 months.” The Stafford town records “give the chi. of Josiah and Eleanor Converse as Josiah, b. June 4, 1737, Israel, b. Aug. 7, 1743, and the triplets Joseph, Benjamin, and Hannah, April 22, 1752.”
