What it says
The Lyme Marvins, from the town records. p. 93: “Pickett, b. 5 Feb., 1768; d. June, 1853, in
Bloomfield, O.; he removed to Ohio, and res. in Jackson and Chilicothe, where he accumulated a
handsome estate; he m. and had issue, of whom one was Timothy, res. Bloomfield; no further
particulars have been learned.” His father Capt. Timothy Marvin (1744-1808) was the son of Capt.
Elisha Marvin and Catharine Mather, who “was ‘a charming woman of devout character, endowed with
lively wit, and very agreeable in conversation’” (pp. 66-67). Read in the archive.org full text

With it: Larkin, Pioneer History of Meigs County (1908), p. 114: “Pickett Marvin, a young man from the Eastern States, married Polly Warth, a sister of Catharine Fletcher. They settled in Gallia county, where Mr. Marvin served several years as Magistrate” (https://archive.org/details/pioneerhistoryof00lark_0); and Taylor, Ohio Statesmen (1892), the House of 1809-10: “Pickett Marvin, Gallia.”

- pp. 29-35: Reinold Marvin, “son of Edward and Margaret Marvin, was baptized 25 Oct., 1594, in St. Mary’s Church, Great Bentley, Essex,” churchwarden there in 1627 and 1633-34, taxed for the Essex Ship Money in 1636; at Hartford in 1638, then Farmington, Saybrook and Lyme; freeman of Saybrook 20 May 1658; died in the summer of 1662 (will 23 May, inventory 28 Oct 1662, £820). His wife Marie “died in Lyme, probably in the summer of 1661 … Her death was attributed to ‘witchcraft.’” At Hartford, 5 Sept 1661, Nicholas and Margaret Jennings of Saybrook were indicted “for ‘having enterteined familiarity with Sathan … to ye loss of ye liues of seueral psons, and in particuler ye wife of Reynold Marvin.’” The will: “Unto my son Renold Marvin I giue my house and all my lands. I will that unto each of my grand children there be provided and given a bible.”
- pp. 38-41: Lieut. Reinold, “christened in St. Mary’s Church, Great Bentley, England, 20 Dec., 1631; died in Lyme, Ct., 4 Aug., 1676; married about 1662, Sarah, third daughter of George, Jr., and Sarah ( ) Clark, baptized 18 Feb., 1643/4, in Milford, Ct.”; she married (2) 12 Feb 1677/8 Capt. Joseph Sill and died 1 Feb 1715/16, “aged 74 years” (gravestone). His stone: “1676 | LEVET | RENOLD | MARVIN | Aged 42.”
- pp. 48-50: Capt. Reinold, “born in 1669, in Lyme, Ct.; died there 18 Oct., 1737; married (1), about 1696, Phebe, daughter of Lieut. Thomas and Mary (DeWolf) Lee … married (2), 30 June, 1709, Martha, daughter of Sergt. Thomas and Miriam (Tracy) Waterman, born 6 Dec., 1680, in Norwich, Ct.; died 18 Nov., 1753, in Lyme.” His banns, in rhyme: “Reinold Marvin and Phebe Lee / Do intend to marry: / And though her dad opposed be, / We can no longer tarry.”
- pp. 66-67: Capt. Elisha, “born 8 March, 1717/18, in Lyme, Ct.; died there 31 Dec., 1801 (Lyme rec.); married 17 May, 1739, in Lyme, Catharine, daughter of Capt. Timothy and Sarah (Noyes) Mather, born 11 Jan’y, 1717/18, in Lyme; died there 4 Dec., 1799.” Selectman 1754-61; representative 1766 and 1767; his will left his son Joseph his “silver-hilted sword.”
- pp. 92-94: Capt. Timothy, “born 23 May, 1744, in Lyme, Ct.; died there 27 Feb., 1808; married (1), 30 May, 1765, Sarah, daughter of James and Margaret (Andrews) Perkins, born 1 Sept., 1747, in Lyme; died there 23 (Church rec. 24) Oct., 1795.”
