Notes
An early settler of Hingham, granted a three-acre house lot on Bachelor (now Main) Street in 1637, bounded north by Thomas Hett and south by Ralph Smith; it was later the site of the house Rev. Joseph Richardson built in 1816 (History of Hingham 2:23). Farmer and weaver; his inventory lists 12 horned cattle, 9 swine, produce and “weaving material.” His first children were twins, Thomas and John, baptized on 21 May 1643 (History of Hingham 2:23).
His will is dated 29 Apr 1671 and was not seen. It names his married daughter as “Elizabeth Murfett” (Barclay, TAG 40:193-198, as cited on WikiTree): the record that ties his daughter Elizabeth to Thomas Mulford of Eastham. Gravestone: “THOMAS BARNS AGED 70 YEARS DYED YE 29 DAY OF NOUEMBER. 1672.”
Open questions
- The History of Hingham says he was “said to have been a s. of Roland,” and gives no record for it (2:23).
