Lucy Lord
Wife of Nathan Low of Boxford from 1765 and mother of their ten children; after his death she married Capt. Ebenezer Lord of Ipswich in 1808 and, probably, Josiah Choate in 1817. Her Bible, recording the family's births, marriages and deaths, passed to her son Major Nathan Low's family on Deer Isle. She died at Boxford in 1833, aged 87.
Life
- 1746Born25 Aug 1746
Her Bible and the Choate Genealogy. The Ipswich VR has her baptism, 30 Aug 1747 (1:245), which Mollie gives; her age at death, 87, fits 1746.
- 1765Married Nathan Low17 Jan 1765, Ipswich, Massachusetts
"Lucy, and Nathan Low, Jan. 17, 1765. c. R. 7." (2:282, 291); c. R. 7 is the Fourth Church. Lucy's Bible agrees. The FamilySearch tree's 25 Oct 1764 is probably the intention.
- 1808Married Capt. Ebenezer Lord25 Apr 1808
Boxford VR p. 171; Ipswich intention 9 Apr 1808 (2:280). Her Bible has "Eben Lord and Lucy Low, 25 Apr 1808."
- 1817Married Josiah Choate28 Nov 1817
Choate Genealogy, Josiah Choate [179]. Boxford records the intention, "Lucy, and Josiah Choate of Gloucester, int. Nov. 1, 1817" (p. 171).
- 1833Died10 Sept 1833, Boxford, Massachusetts
"Lucy [(Lord)], w. Nathan, Sept. 10, 1833, a. 87 y." (p. 249).

- Capt. Ebenezer Lord
Capt. Ebenezer Lord of Ipswich. That the 1808 bride was this Lucy, once our inference, is confirmed by her own Bible. He died 2 May 1810 (Ipswich VR 2:617); the Bible says 21 May 1810.
- Spouse 2
- Josiah Choate
Her Bible records his death, 30 Mar 1822, aged 75, and is inscribed with her name as Lucy Choate. Mollie says she married "a Choate" and had a daughter who married a Tappan. The Tappan bride, Nancy, was Josiah's daughter by his first wife.

Notes
Wife of Nathan Low of Boxford, then of Capt. Ebenezer Lord and of Josiah Choate. She died as “w. Nathan,” with her first husband’s name. Her husband’s will of 1803 left her a third of the real estate for life, “two cows and two sheep,” his chaise and sleigh “together with the privilege of using a horse for all necessary purposes,” and the household furniture.
Her Bible. A Philadelphia Bible of 1802, published by Mathew Carey, inscribed “This book was purchased Anno Domino 2 April 1801 By Lucy Choate” (the edition is of 1802, and she was Lucy Choate only from 1817, so the date is wrong). It records her marriages to Nathan Low and Eben Lord, the births of Nathan, herself and their ten children, and the deaths of Eben Lord (1810), Josiah Choate (1822), “Daniel Lord, 11 Jul 1819, in his 77th year” and “Miss Mary Lord, d. 28 Jan 1826 in 94th year of age (called an old maid),” probably her kin. It passed to her son Major Nathan’s family on Deer Isle, where Thomas T. Low’s family added their own entries, and is known from the transcript in the Deer Isle families typescript.
Boxford’s record of her second marriage reads “LORD, Ebenezer, Capt., of Ipswich, and Mrs. Lucy Low, Apr. 25, 1808,” and the same page files her third under LORD: “Lucy, and Josiah Choate of Gloucester, int. Nov. 1, 1817” (Boxford VR p. 171). That she used the name Lord in 1817 supports identifying the 1808 bride as this Lucy (our inference). The Choate Genealogy (Josiah Choate [179]) calls her “Mrs. Lucy (Lord) Lowe” at the 1817 marriage, leaving out the Lord marriage. It says Josiah Choate died 30 March 1822, and that “Mrs. Lucy (Low) Choate, nee Lord, after Mr. Choate’s death, returned to Boxford, Mass., where she died.”

- Born 25 Aug 1746 (her Bible, the Choate Genealogy) or 1747 (baptized 30 Aug 1747)?
- Who were Daniel Lord (d. 1819) and Miss Mary Lord (d. 1826) of her Bible?
- Where is the Bible now? Last reported on Deer Isle with Thomas T. Low’s descendants (the Deer Isle-Stonington Historical Society may know).
Mollie's typescript
Mollie gives Lucy's death on 10 Sept 1833 and her burial in Harmony Cemetery at Boxford, and says that she married again, a Choate of Essex, and came back to Boxford after his death (the records show two later husbands, Capt. Ebenezer Lord and Josiah Choate).
as is also his wife Lucy who died Sept. 10 , 1833 , one year before her great granddaughter, Harriet Low, my mother, was born. ... Lucy Lord Low returned to Essex and there married again a Choate

Checked against the records
- ProvenNathan and Lucy Low lived in John Hale's house, the Low Mansion
Perley's History of Boxford agrees, except the date: John Hale "built the late ancient Low mansion about 1750." It came to Nathan Low about 1772 and stayed in the family until Major William Low, Solomon's son, died in 1870 after a bull attacked him. The buildings burned on 21 June 1874.

Lucy married twice more: Capt. Ebenezer Lord of Ipswich in 1808, and Josiah Choate in 1817, when she was about 71. The Tappan bride, Nancy, was Josiah Choate's daughter by his first wife (The Choates in America, 1896).
Read it in the book, p. 79 → - DisprovenJames Lord, born 1676, married Mary Fuller and was Lucy's father
There were two James Lords. James Sr. (b. 27 Jan 1676/7, d. 1734) was the marshal's son; his son James Jr. (b. 12 Apr 1707) married Mary Fuller on 5 Jan 1731/2, and their children baptized at Ipswich were Mary, James, Ebenezer and Lucy. Mary Fuller was probably Nathaniel Fuller's daughter, as Mollie's Fuller chart has it.
