Notes
Of Plymouth. His estate’s administrators were empowered in October 1789; its account lists “the farm in Plymouth with the Buildings thereon occupied by George Ellis & to him sold,” at £240, and they deeded land to George Ellis, his son-in-law, in 1794.
Davis gives his children as Edward (b. 6 Feb 1747/8); William (1752); Sylvanus (m. Betsey, widow of James or Joseph Doten); John (m. Elizabeth Battles); Samuel (went to Maine); Lemuel; Benjamin; Zacheus; Sally (m. Isaac Bonney); Phebe (m. George Ellis); Mary (m. Asa Sherman); and Elizabeth (m. Joseph Robbins). Only Edward, William and Phebe have files; the rest have no dates in the research.
Mollie Pfeiffer has him and Phebe living at Carver. That fits their son Edward, “of Carver” at his marriage in 1802; Edward Jr. was buried on Burial Hill in 1788, before Carver was set off (1790).
Mollie's typescript
Mollie's Stephens chart gives his birth in 1721, his death on 9 Apr 1788 (he is buried on Burial Hill), and his marriage in 1747 to Phebe Harlow.

Checked against the records
- PossiblePhebe Stevens was the daughter of Edward Stevens and Phebe Harlow
Probable. No record names her parents. Davis (1899) lists "Phebe, m. George Ellis" among Edward Stephens's children; his estate sold its farm to George Ellis; and in 1805 her children quitclaimed land near Seth Harlow's homestead, with a right in Harlow's Cedar Swamp, "from our Mother Phebe Ellis Decd who was formerly Phebe Stephens".

Edward Stephens Jr. was buried on Burial Hill, Plymouth, in 1788, and the farm his estate sold to George Ellis was in Plymouth. Carver was set off from Plympton only in 1790. Their son Edward was "of Carver" when he married in 1802, which may be where the idea came from.
