Printed transcripts of the Boston town records, read in the archive.org full text (vol. 24 at https://archive.org/details/reportofrecordco2417bost; vol. 28 at https://archive.org/details/volumeofrecordsr28bost). Some pages were checked against the page images.
- Vol. 9: Samuel, "of Hopestill & Elizabeth Foster born Dec. 27" [1676]; Rebecca, "of Samuel & Rebecca Foster born Apr. 10" [1699]; the Foster children Elizabeth (26 July 1669) and Mary (22 July 1671); "John of John & Mary Kneeland born Nov. 29" [1668] and the other Kneeland children; the drowning of Joseph Briscoe, 1 Jan 1657/8 (9:61).
- Vol. 28: "Samuel Foster & Rachel Kneeland / Int. reads [Samll.] / Mr. Joseph Sewall Presn. / Apr. 5, 1722" (28:106, image checked); John Foster and Jane Lindsey, 20 Apr 1750, intention 9 Apr 1750 as "Jane Linsey" (28:344, 28:287); "William Row, Negro Servt. to Joseph Brisco," forbidden to marry Johanna Gig, 26 Oct 1720 (28:99).
- Vol. 2: William Briscoe admitted 24 Feb 1639/40 "to have a great Lott, for eight heads, at the mount" (2:48).
No birth of a Thomas Thompson about 1744 is in vol. 24, and no birth of Rachel Kneeland.
Also in vol. 9: the first First Church baptisms, "Joy & Recompence daug[hters] of John Milles 8 mo." [1630] (9:1); "Joseph Brisco was married to Abigail Compton dau. of John Compton 30th — 11th mo. by William Hibbins" [1651/2]; "Joseph of Joseph and Abigail Brisco born August 21st" [1658] (9:65) and his baptism as "Joseph of Abigail Brisco"; "Abraham Busby & Abigail Brisco widdow were married 23rd Sept. by John Endecott Gov." [1659]; "Cecile wife of William Brisco deceased the 9th of December" [1661]; and the children of Joseph and Rebecca Brisco from "Rebecca of Joseph & Rebecca Brisco born Sept. 16" [1679] (9:148, OCR damaged) to 1696. NEHGR 178:35 cites vol. 24, p. 7, for Samuel Foster's birth, 25 June 1701, which the OCR did not show. Vol. 2 also has the Book of Possessions entry for William Briscoe's house, "bounded with Robert Walker east: the Common north: the streete south," and his choice as an overseer of fences at Muddy River in 1642 and 1647.
For the Rands and Cheevers (Woodbury, Rand–Cheever–Ivory and Slater lines behind the Ellingwoods): "Susanna of Richard & Abigail Cheever born Aug. 27" [1682] and "Abigail of Humphry & Mary Milam born Oct. 10" [1660] (vol. 9); "Robert Rand & Susana Cheever ... Rev. Benj. Wadsworth ... Jan. 26, 1709," and on the same page, by Rev. Thomas Bridge, 12 May 1709, "Robert Rand & Eliza. Welch," another Robert (vol. 28, p. 25); "Malachi Salter & Susanna Mulberry," 1744 (28:262), the marriage the Ancestry tree misread as Sarah Slater's mother's; "Asa Stodder & Mary Slatter. Int. reads [Stoddard] [Slater]," by Rev. Samuel Stillman, Nov. 24, 1765 (vol. 30, p. 58). Vol. 10, Miscellaneous Papers (https://archive.org/details/reportofrecordco10bost_0), prints the will of Robert Keayne, 1653: "Item I give & bequeath to Robert Rand of Lyn sometime my servant forty shillings to be payd him within two yeares after my decease, if he be then liveing in this country" (10:25; checked).
For King Philip's War (research/king-philips-war/), vol. 9: "Mary of Samuel & Mary Pollard born Nov. 22"
[1673], daughter of the trooper Samuel Pollard; and two Samuel Kneelands born at Boston in 1697, "Samuel of
John & Mary Kneeland born Jan. 31" [1696/7], the printer, and "Samuel of Samuel & Mary Kneeland born Apr. 26"
[1697]. The "Saml. Kneeland, gr. son" who claimed Samuel Pollard's Narragansett right in 1733 (Bodge, p. 431)
was the second, born 26 Apr 1697, whom the Kneeland genealogy (1897, p. 67) makes the eldest son of Solomon
Kneeland and Mary Pollard and Pollard's "heir-at-law"; so the claim says nothing about the printer's
mother.
