His only known child, Joseph, was born on 21 Aug 1658, more than seven months after he drowned (NEHGR 178:6, 26).
Rev. John Wilson, pastor of Boston's First Church and his father's first cousin, wrote a broadside elegy for him, "A Copy of Verses ... On the sudden Death of Mr. Joseph Brisco," printed at Cambridge by Samuel Green and built on the anagram "Job cries hopes" (NEHGR 178:6). It names the cause of death: "Not by a Fiery Chariot as Elisha was, / But by the Water, which was the outward cause." Written in Joseph's voice, it goes on: "What if I was so soon in Waters drown'd, / And when I cry'd to men, no help I found" (broadside, Library of Congress).
