Orrington, Maine, marriages of 1787 and 1792: Richard and Ralph Ellingwood

From the research files. Richard Ellingwood and Hope Holdershaw, 24 Dec 1787, Orrington (then Lincoln County; FS index Q21S-QNN1). “Ralph Ellingwood of Frankfort, and Delilah Holdershaw of Frankfort”, 19 Jul 1792 (Bangor Historical Magazine 1:109). Two Boston brothers married two Holdershaw sisters.

The return itself (downloaded 10 Oct 2026): Orrington’s list of marriages sent to the clerk of the Lincoln County Court of General Sessions, among them “Richard Ellinwood and Hope Holdershaw Married Decemr 24th 1787”. It is signed “A True Return Orrington May 15th 1790, Solomon Sweat [?] Town Clerk”, with his apology for sending only one shilling and sixpence of the fee, “as Money is Scarce.”
